New Style, New You: Latest trends to try

By  |

Do you ever find yourself getting bored with your style or select look? You may have those days where nothing is looking good. You have tried everything in your closet and still aren’t having that “ah-ha” moment. Don’t panic, this happens to the most of us! I’m here now to try and help you with this common problem.

After several times of encountering this same issue, I found that the easiest cure is to widen your thinking. Take everything that you know about yourself and your set style and throw all that out the window. Look outside the box pass your usual go to looks, and into new territory. The time has come for you to try something outside of your box and transform into a new you. Based on current styles now, here are just a few new ideas that are trending that you can try to spruce up your look and find a new you!

Print-on-Print

With the start of this Spring season we have been seeing a lot of really bold, vibrant prints out there. Whether they’re floral, geometric, or abstract, prints are being pushed on a high level. Wearing print on print, meaning that your top and bottom are the exact same print of exact size, layout and color. The cool part about this is that it takes you back to your younger years when your parents would buy you those adolescent sets that were pre-styled with matching prints. You already know what went with what and there was little to no effort to getting ready. Now that we are in our adult years, these matching sets are back in style. You can see them in skirt and crop top form, shorts and t-shirt sets all the way to elaborate patterned suiting.

This print-on-print style can be a huge leap for some and a small one for others but no matter what, its an extremely fashion forward way of dressing. Not only is it daring but with the abundance of print, it makes it easy for those of you that don’t really enjoy blending in and following the crowd. With that being said, styling these looks are extremely easy. Depending on the style, a simple necklace or stacked bangles is all you need to add on. For more dressier looks, a pop of color in the shoe or handbag/clutch is all you’ll need to make this look complete.

Denim-on-Denim

Who would have ever thought that wearing two blue statement denim pieces together in one look would make a come back?! This style can be seen back in earlier years with the start of major denim producers such as Levi Strauss. Well the style is back and its something new to our current generation.  It’s pretty self explanatory, consisting of finding a denim bottom and pairing it with a similar shade of blue denim for a top. My favorite execution of this style is pairing a nicely fitted button down top with a pair of distressed denim skinny jeans. Leave the last button undone on the top so that you can tuck in one of the shirt panels into your jeans to show off a nicely paired leather belt of any shade ranging from light cognac brown to dark chocolate brown or black. Find a strappy sandal, ankle boot or wedge of the same color as your belt to complete a simple, yet completely chic day look.

The denim-on-denim style can also be seen via a denim pencil skirt and denim button down or doing a denim bottom with some sort of tank or t-shirt but throwing a denim jacket in similar denim shades as your outer layer to your look. How ever you choose to wear this style, just know that you may get a little history lesson on the olden days when this style was around but just keep in mind that the style has made a huge come back and sometimes you just need to look at something from the past to gain inspiration for the future.

Statement Shoes

If an entirely new style change is not for you, yet you would still like something to spice up your wardrobe? Try a little shoe shopping as therapy. The shoe industry has definitely been stepping up to the plate and providing us adventurous beings with new styles, shapes and colors. The best thing about purchasing a shoe that is out of the ordinary is not only the shock value that you receive when wearing it but an awesome new pair of shoes can totally take an old retired look or outfit and completely change it to something new and refreshed.

When looking for a new shoe to liven things up for your style, consider colors that you don’t already own. This new color will not only help you try something new, but more than likely you’ll need to go and purchase new wardrobe pieces of the same color palette. All along helping you expand your style and look. If not color, consider new shapes, meaning different shoe constructions different from the ones that you already own. Try out new sole heights. Platformed soles are becoming increasingly popular. If your high heels are usually an almond or round toe, consider purchasing a pointed toe for more of a striking look. If you find that you constantly wear flats with your daily looks, go out and buy yourself a nice pair of oxfords, plimsolls or deck shoes. Lastly, try new a brand or designer of shoe. The options for shoes and shoe retailers or endless. Adding a new shoe to your wardrobe will definitely not go unnoticed. Shoes are usually the first or last thing we notice when coming into contact with others.

Fashion at  times can  be tremendously exhausting, frustrating and time consuming but lets not forget all the fun and enjoyment it brings as well. Changing into new looks and styles can help you into a better you or at times a whole new person. The clothing that we choose to wear and the styles we decide to take on, all come together to form who we are and our personality as a whole. Don’t limit the person that you can be. Try new things even if you believe that the style that you have now is perfect. There are always new styles to be learned and latest trends to try.

Ever since I was a young boy, I had a love for clothing. I remember walking through various stores just feeling the fabrics and turning the garments inside out just to look at the construction of each piece. I knew that the fashion industry was a creative realm that I had to be part of. With that in mind I made my way through college and graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Product Development with an initial emphasis in Fashion Design. I've completed the trek from the Midwest all the way to the Golden State of California to take my place in the fashion world and take a stand for self expression and creativity. What excites me the most about fashion is the opportunity to completely morph yourself into different styles daily! The chance to try new things and set yourself apart from your neighbor. Its a glamorous and fascinating world. Through my written word, I hope to express my passion and the love I have deep down for fashion world. I also want be that helping hand for all of those that know they have it in them to be trendy and chic but may not know just exactly what to put together, from the items within their closet to execute successful daily looks. I hope that my words are helpful, encouraging and most importantly, helps to build confidence within each reader!
