Profane or Profound? Amber Rose and Blac Chyna Turn Heads on the Red Carpet.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and in this case all of them are obscenities. Amber Rose and Blac Chyna are no stranger to controversy, however they have decided to take it into their own hands. The two gal-pals were all smiles while shamelessly wearing a myriad of words used against them to promote slut shaming.

The garments were custom made by two feminist fans who sought to make an empowering statement that would speak for itself. Both women have been slandered countless times in the media for their physiques, their professions, and even the lyrics of their rapper exes (Tyga, Kanye West, and Wiz Khalifa to name a few). Instead of letting media outlets and spectators run wild in the comments section, they decided to take matters into their own hands and wear on their skin some of the horrendous labels they’ve been given over the years. Though the profane nature of the bodysuits rubbed some of the more conservative fashion critics the wrong way, however many others applauded the ladies for their unabashed bravery. After all the VMAs are notorious for crazy red-carpet couture, and this year was no exception. Fashion has always served as a vital a form of communication, and self-expression. While the ensembles did manage to create quite a stir, it simultaneously called attention to the growing issue of belittling women’s sexuality. Initiatives such as “Free the Nipple” have made similar efforts to eradicate the stigma that a woman’s breast is obscene, rather than a part of her body, an integral part of the feminist agenda.

Other companies, such as O-mighty, Profane Los Angeles, and Dolls Kill are renowned for their creations which include a plethora of feminist-friendly slogans such as “be a slut do whatever you want” and “a woman does not have to be modest in order to be respected.” Profanity has infiltrated the street fashion scene. Men and women everywhere are parading down the pavement in powerful statements, a trend that won’t be disappearing anytime soon.
