The first of its kind, World of Women’s Film Fair Middle East will open in Dubai on March 5th – 8th – International Women’s Day, at VOX Cinemas Mall of the Emirates to celebrate women in the film and arts.

WOW Film Fair Middle East will highlight the diversity of independent filmmaking by women as well as various types of storytelling by directors across the globe. Established by the Women in Film & Television NSW, the Middle East event is curated by Straight Street Media; a UAE based global media company, established by leading Australian TV news Anchor and Author, Hermoine Macura and VOX Cinemas.

“This years Film Fair will focus on human rights as well as how women are changing the face of society across the world. Featuring films from the United States to Tunisia and the UAE, this year’s event will focus on important issues to women and men worldwide such as human trafficking and women challenging stereotypes through sport. WOW builds communication and dialogue, while also offering a unique platform for the community to get together and discuss hot topics that effect our society.” Says Macura.

As the first ever International Women’s Film Fair in the Arab world, WOW Middle East aims to share information and highlight the growing number of films made about women and by women. This year’s Fair will also include guest speakers and workshops by prominent thought leaders such as the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children’s Pioneer, Her Excellency Afra Al Basti, who will share more on the Foundations efforts to stop Human trafficking and violence against women in a unique workshop on March 5th after the first screening and the UK’s Founder of the Conscious Muslim Club, Khatija Sacranie.

Al Basti praised the events role in raising awareness about human trafficking saying: “There are still a large number of people who are not aware that slavery still exists in a modern form – which is human trafficking…Initiatives such as the WOW Film Fair play an important role by helping to provide a better future for the victims of human trafficking and in preventing this crime”.

Managing Partners VOX Cinema’s CEO Cameron Mitchell adds: “ We are delighted to support the third WOW Film Fair in Dubai and celebrate International Women’s Day with highly accomplished women from all walks of life. VOX Cinema strives to create great moments for everyone every day and with that, experiences, that ensure we remain focused on our corporate social responsibility – all ticket sales from the event will be donated to the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children.”

WOW Film Fair will feature an array of drama, fiction, non-fiction, features and shorts as well as special Awards ceremony that will recognize 5 leading women nominated for their excellence in various fields. The Fair is also proudly supported by the Australian government, Boutique Emerat, SVK and the Council for Arab Australian Relations, an organization committed to giving a platform to women known for their leadership and innovation and to foster stronger links between Australian and Arab women, organizations and businesses.

International Women’s Day began in 1908, when 15,000 women marched through New York City demanding shorter work hours, better pay and the right to vote. A little over 100 years later, International Women’s Day is celebrated all over the world as a day to advance women across all sectors as well as defend their right to equality and freedom – this fair celebrates women and advances the cause through the medium of film and communicating issues that are important to women in this region.

Tickets will be available for sale online at voxcinemas.com and in cinema at the box office across Dubai from Feb 16th.

The WOW Film Fair Middle East debuts on March 5th – 8th, 2015 at VOX cinemas.
