8 Tricks to Removing Unwanted Hairs Like a Pro

By  |

Unwanted hair is one of the worst things to have to deal with. It seems to come back with a vengeance and, to be quite honest, it can make you feel less than attractive. While you may be able to mask it in the winter months with long sleeved shirts and pants, during the summer when you want to show a little skin, stubble and unsightly hairs are a fashion no-no. The good news, however, is there is a solution that can leave your skin as smooth as butter – waxing.

Now if you can’t afford to hit the spa to get your hair removed, you can always purchase affordable wax strips and remove hair from areas like your bikini line, legs, face, and underarms with no issue at all. If you’ve never given yourself a wax treatment before, there are some things you’re going to want to do to make sure it goes well. Check out the tips below:

  1. Don’t Wait Until You Look Like Cousin It

Waiting until your hairs are extremely long can impact the results of the wax. It also makes the job a little more complicated. Most wax kits can pick up hairs as small as a 0.15 inches.

  1. Don’t Forget to Prep Your Skin

A day or two before you decide to wax, it is important to prep your skin by exfoliating. This will improve the results and minimize the risk of irritation. You can exfoliate using a loofah or a scrub so you can get rid of the dead layers of skin so that the wax can grip the hair easier. When you’re ready to wax, be sure to wash the area with soap and water and allow it to dry to ensure there is no lotion or oil on the skin.

  1. Take Something for Pain or Reaction

If you’re nervous about experiencing pain or irritation from the waxing, you can take something for allergies or an ibuprofen at least 30 minutes prior to waxing.

  1. Wax When You Have the Time

Waxing requires some time and should not be rushed. Also, it is recommended that you don’t wax when you’re stressed or tense as it can add to the discomfort you experience, as the nerve endings are more acute.

  1. Choose the Appropriate Wax Products

If this is your first time waxing on your own, wax strips are the way to go. They already have the accurate amount of wax on them, making the process easier. All you’ll need to do is separate them, warm them up and apply them.

  1. Follow the Instructions

Make sure that you read the instructions on your wax kit before you get started. They will instruct you on exactly what you’ll need to do, including how to heat the wax and properly remove the strips from the skin. Also, make sure that you’re working with one strip at a time.

In a nutshell, you will place the wax strip on the area of your skin you wish to remove hair from. Make sure that you place them in the direction the hair is growing in and press down firmly. Wait a few minutes and then hold the skin down as you pull the strip in the opposite direction the hair is growing in. After you’ve removed the strip, you should apply some pressure to the area to minimize any discomfort you’re feeling. If you’re trying to do an area that you can reach easily with both hands such as the underarm, it’s a good idea to ask a significant other or friend for help.

  1. Treat Your Skin After Waxing

After you’re done waxing, it is extremely important to put something soothing on the skin such as azulene oil or aloe vera gel. This type of oil will provide immediate relief and reduce redness. Since it is an oily substance, it will also help to remove any excess wax from the skin.

  1. Maintain Your Results

There is a possibility that you could experience some ingrown hairs after waxing. To prevent this from happening, you’ll want to make sure that you’re exfoliating and moisturizing the skin on a regular basis to prevent dead skin from building up. It is also recommended that you stick to a normal wax routine every four to six weeks.

You don’t have to visit the spa every month to get the smooth skin you’re looking for. With an at home waxing kit, something to exfoliate with, and a little practice, you’ll be waxing like a pro in no time. Now you can step outside this summer (and all year long) looking beach ready.
