‘Property Brothers’ Stars Jonathan and Drew Scott Talk New Book, Music and Favorite House Renovation

Jonathan and Drew Scott, stars of the HGTV hit show “Property Brothers,” can now add #1 New York Times bestselling author to their resumes.

The dynamic duo recently released their debut book, Dream Home: The Property Brothers’ Ultimate Guide to Finding & Fixing Your Perfect House, where they exclusively shared with me the inspiration for the book.

“We’ve accumulated this wealth of knowledge over the years from everything that we’ve been doing, that we thought it’s about time we put that into a resource,” said Jonathan.

In their book, the famous brothers give tips for buying, selling and renovating a home. As for a piece of advice they wish someone had given them when they were starting out?

“A mistake we made early on was we over-renovated—we didn’t realize that every neighborhood has a different buyer—it’s not just one generic way you should improve a property,” says Drew.

Since then, the successful pair has gone on to host four shows on HGTV, mastering the art of renovation. Out of the hundreds of homes they’ve put their stamp on, which house has been their favorite to do?

“Definitely my house in Vegas because I got to put in a waterslide for myself—a two-story, commercial waterslide,” says Jonathan.

The HGTV hunks prove to be multi-talented as they not only star in their own shows, but they also co-wrote “Hold On,” the theme song for “Property Brothers at Home on the Ranch.”

“We didn’t realize “Hold On” would Billboard chart and go to No. 1 at Vevo”, said Jonathan. “We will definitely write more music, but we are going to make sure it comes organically for us.”

Both brothers reveal artists they’d like to work with when they start writing again.

As for Drew,Darius Rucker is someone I’d love to work with. He’s a friend of ours and he’s an amazing artist. I’d love to do music with him.”

Taylor Swift has been calling me nonstop, and I’m like, ‘Taylor, Taylor, enough, I don’t have time to write right now,’ ” jokes Jonathan.
