Jeans have always been a central component of most men´s wardrobes. However, that does not mean that you can get away with wearing the same pair year in year out, and still look on trend. Every season, brings a new look, and the summer of 2017 will be no exception.

Old school cuts

The trend for designers to tap into the 70s and 80s appears to be continuing. Many have clearly been inspired by the styling of the iconic 501 jeans.

In 2017, you are still going to be able to buy skinny jeans, but as you can see if you click here most of the jeans you are going to see in the shops this summer are going to be straight cut. They are also going to be loser around the buttocks and thighs.

Comfort is back

Most designers have tweaked the cut of their jeans to make them more comfortable. There is more space around the thigh and midriff areas.  This is a welcome change for those of us who are sick our legs starting to go to sleep when we sit down for more than half an hour.

Higher waistlines

Another nod to comfort is the incorporation of higher waistlines. There is no longer a need to wear a longer t-shirt or shirt to stop your boxers from being on display, when you sit down.

Belts are back

Interestingly, despite the fact that you do not actually need one with high waisted jeans, belts are back in vogue. The majority of brands have included old school webbed belts with their jeans, or are selling them as extras. Again, this is a nod towards the 80s, which was the last time this style of belt was popular.

Cut-offs and cuffs

For decades, we have been wearing jeans that are exactly the right length, and hemmed in the traditional way. This year, that is set to change.

You are likely to see quite a few people cuffing their jeans, or cutting them off at the bottom and leaving them frayed. This last one is an interesting trend, which has not really been seen before, so it will be interesting to see if it takes off or not.

Head to toe denim

For a few years now, designers have been including denim jackets in their collections, but they have not really caught on. However, it looks like 2017, will actually be the year of the denim jacket. Sales are already strong, so it looks like the head to toe denim look is set to finally catch on again.

Distressed jeans

Super light, stone washed jeans are available everywhere. This is another 80s trend that is making a return.

All of the above trends have been seen on the catwalks, and are already appearing in the shops. However, there is likely to be changes as the summer progresses, as retailers work out which of these styles consumers like the most.
