9 Tips For Being a Party’s ‘Wow’ Guest

By  |

If you’re a social butterfly, then you’ll have your fair share of parties and events to attend. While for the most part these are pretty casual, fun affairs that don’t require much forethought, sometimes you’ll be invited to an event where you really want to make an impression. But of course, wanting to make an impression and actually doing so are two different things. There are things you can do, however, to make sure that you’re firing on all cylinders. If you’re at your scintillating best, then no-one will be able to take your crown for being the “wow” guest of the party. Read our ten useful tips below, and get ready to be in demand!

Rest Up

It’s all in the preparation, in more ways than one. If you’re rushing to an event after a long day of work or otherwise being out and about, then you’ll be forgiven if you hit energy highs and lows through the course of the night. However, if you’re well rested and raring to go, then you’ll be able to stay on top form all night long. If your event is on a Saturday – or a day when you’re not in work – then spend the day relaxing. If you’ve spent many hours reading, watching movies, and all-around building up your energy, then you’ll be itching to go come party time. It’s all about arriving at the party in the best shape possible, and you can’t do that if you’re tired before you even start your journey there.

Spa Relaxation

Of course, you could take the whole ‘relaxation’ thing one step further. To feel completely relaxed and happy when you arrive, consider going for a spa day on the day of the event. You’ll walk out feeling incredible, which is a pretty good platform upon which to walk into a party.

Bold Fashions

The content of your character is going to come out in all its glory during the night, but there’ll be a lot of people there, so you need something to help you stand out to people even when you’re on the other side of the room. And that calls for only one thing: your clothes. If you look and feel a million dollars, then people will be turning their heads to get a glimpse of the divine person who’s just walked past them. Of course, there are different fashions for different events. You can go big, bold, and colorful, or you can keep things classy with a classic black dress. Regardless, you’ll look amazing!

Looking the Part

Your clothes are only going to be one aspect of your overall appearance. There will be two more factors, which are just as – if not more – important: your makeup, and your hair. For these, it’s important to pick a style that’s out of the ordinary. Look up the latest makeup styles, and get your locks professionally tendered to by a hair salon. Aside from catching the eye of the other party-goers, you’ll also feel at your radiant and confident best, which is a massive thing when it comes to being a memorable – can we say indispensable? – part of any event.

Arrive When You Feel Comfortable

What is the correct time to arrive at a party? There is no overall correct answer. Some people like to arrive when there are just a few guests, so they can feel their way into the event and get comfortable. Others like to go down the ‘fashionably late’ route. As you can see, there is no correct answer that applies to everyone – only the one that’s right for you. Just try to avoid turning up TOO late…people may be winding down if you do that.

Leave the Small Talk

How good you look can only get you so far at a party. In any case, you’re not going to be the only person who looks their glittering best at the party. The true test of the impression you make will be your conversation. The bad news is that you’ll have to be interesting. The good news is that this might not be too difficult if you’re at a regular old party where people don’t know each other. They tend to stick to the same old conversations: where do you work, where do you live, and so on. You’ll be memorable if you quickly take yourself away from the usual topics and present some big ideas, observations, interesting questions about the other person’s life, and so on. These are the conversations that make parties interesting!

Approach Other People

There’s something to be said for being the charismatic, cool look person in the corner of the party. But that’ll only take you so far. At some point, you’ll need to show a bit more of yourself. You can do this by, well, putting yourself out there and talking with other people. It takes a confident person to stride forth and introduced themselves to people they’ve never met, but if you can muster up that inch of courage, then you’ll find yourself richly rewarded. Plus, what’s the alternative, anyway? Go chat to people.

Include Other People

You can be the confident, ‘wow’ member of the party. But don’t forget the people who need a bit of a nudge to open up. If you’re in the middle of a fascinating conversation and see someone standing by themselves, looking lost, then include them in the conversation. People really appreciate being included! Plus, it’s always important to remember that being a hit isn’t about having all eyes on you. It’s about navigating the room well and making sure everyone’s having a good time.

Don’t Overdo It

It’s a party, and you’re going to have a good time. But it’s important to remember that it’s easy to lose yourself – and become a different person – if you overindulge. Keep the alcohol drinks to a minimum. You’re an awesome person just the way you are; you don’t need that social lubricant to bring out the best side of yourself!
