Want To Be In The Spotlight_ How To Embark On A Journey To A Life Changing Career

By  |

Do you love being in the spotlight? Perhaps you’ve always dreamed of being on stage, singing, dancing, acting, or all three. If you love performing and you want to make a career out of it, there are things you can do to give yourself more of a chance of succeeding in a saturated industry and creating a life changing career for yourself.

Below we have some pointers that just about any performer can use to get started:

Train, Train, Train Some More

You’re going to need some kind of training, no matter how good you are naturally at these things. It will look good on your resume, and you might pick up some great tips and tricks that will help you to hone your craft and become an even better performer. It doesn’t have to be formal training; you don’t have to go to school. However, you should find a class or course you like in your area, and always plan for more training. This will keep you on the top of your game, up to date with what’s current, well practiced, and you’ll be able to network with all kinds of people. You never know who you might meet!

Know Where You Want To End Up

Knowing where you want to end up is key if you’re going to get there. This is the only way you can come up with a plan that’s suitable to you and your needs, break it down into baby steps, and begin confidently moving forward. Do you want to be in the theatre? Do you want to be a singer, or screen actor? Having a good idea of your ideal role will help you, and if it excites you enough you’ll feel more compelled to continue moving forward. If you want to be managed by Coran Capshaw like other musicians, for example, write it down. Sometimes, it’s good to be super specific, although you don’t want to limit yourself.

Start Putting Material Together To Land Jobs

You’re going to need material that you can use to land jobs. You’ll need a portfolio that contains professional pictures showing off different looks, videos to showcase what you can do, and a short showreel showing your very best bits. You may need to build this over time, as it can take various jobs before you have enough material.

Join Websites That Will Help You To Land Roles

There are lots of websites that can help you to land roles, although you will need to be willing to pay for most of them unless you can get a free trial. You have StarNow, Mandy, Backstage, and the all important Spotlight. However, you do need some material behind you before you can get on Spotlight.

Start From The Bottom

Starting from the bottom is important; at the beginning, you may be paid very low wages, or even nothing at all. For the free jobs, you will often get footage of the work you have done if you have filmed a movie. It can be worth joining actors/performers groups and forums to make sure you’re not being taken advantage of.
