7 Myths behind causes of wrinkles and fine lines

By  |

Wrinkle prevention is a matter of concern for millions of women out there, as all of them are interested in maintaining the youthful aspect of the skin for as long as it is possible. The Internet is abundant in information on how to minimize both wrinkles and fine lines but you should not be too quick in following any advice. In this article, we will discuss the most common myths related to the causes of wrinkles and fine lines.

#1 If you pull on the skin, wrinkles are going to form more easily

You have probably heard, at least once or twice, that pulling on the skin actually leads to the formation of wrinkles and fine lines. Well, this is not accurate, as the human skin is more resistant to physical stress. You can apply makeup and pull on the skin, without worrying about wrinkle formation. This is not a true cause of wrinkles and it is for the best to be informed about such matters. Our skin has a high degree of resistance, in order to resist various aggressive factors, the pulling of the skin being of little importance.

#2 Lack of hydration favors the appearance of wrinkles

Even though the lack of hydration causes the famous aged look, this does not mean that it can actually lead to wrinkle formation. It is important to understand that wrinkles and fine lines are mainly caused by aging, being favored by factors such as sun exposure, smoking or unhealthy diet. The lack of hydration is a contributing factor but not a direct cause. Nevertheless, you can easily escape the aged look, by drinking more water, so that you hydrate the body from within.

#3 Sun exposure is the only factor responsible for wrinkles

Even though sun exposure is one of the most important factors involved in the appearance of wrinkles, it is not the only one. In fact, aging has a more significant impact in the process of wrinkle formation, being directly connected to a person’s genetic inheritance. You have to avoid prolonged sun exposure, as this will lead to the premature aging of the skin. However, this does not mean that wrinkles are not going to appear, as we are all prone to aging and everything that comes with it.

#4 Tanning beds are not as harmful as direct sun exposure

Many people visit tanning beds, in the hope that they will get a beautiful tan. However, most of them make the mistake of thinking that tanning beds are not as harmful as direct sun exposure. Tanning beds are just as risky, as they expose the skin to UV rays and cause premature aging. They are also known to favor the appearance of brown spots, causing you to look older than you really are. The next time you are tempted to choose artificial tanning, think again.

#5 Wrinkles are more common in people with dry skin

Unfortunately, this is a common misconception and quite far from the truth. Wrinkles are not more often seen in people with dry skin but they are more obvious, due to the actual dryness. One of the best anti-aging tips that one could ever give is to keep your skin moisturized. Apply moisturizer on a daily basis and you won’t have to worry about skin dryness. Many moisturizers contain active ingredients, capable of keeping wrinkles and fine lines away.

#6 If you have oily skin, you won’t get wrinkles

Well, just because you have dealt all your life with oily skin, this does not mean you won’t have to deal with wrinkles as well. It is often thought that oily skin does not get wrinkles, due to the excess sebum production. However, it has been confirmed that there is absolutely no connection between these two. People who have oily skin present just as big a risk of developing wrinkles as those who have dry or mixed skin.

#7 Skinny people are more likely to get wrinkles

When you are overweight, wrinkles are less obvious, due to the fat deposits present at the level of the skin. Skinny people present a reduced quantity of fat deposits under the skin, this being the reason why wrinkles are more obvious. Nevertheless, this does not mean that they present a higher risk of developing wrinkles, just because they are underweight. It all goes back to genetics.

These are only a couple of myths related to the causes of wrinkles and fine lines. It is important to understand that the aging process cannot be stopped but you can maintain the youthful aspect of the skin for a longer period of time, by avoiding causing factors. You can also use Aurora Skin Cream, an anti-aging product that promises to minimize both fines lines and wrinkles.
