Chanel SS16 takes off

By  |

Chanel’s ready to wear summer spring collection took place at Chanel Airlines where there were terminals the models entered and exited from, tickets with working flight attendants and gates with audience members awaiting flight. The models took the runway with packed rolling suitcases and carry ons to show the audience how to dress for an airplane.

The collection kept with the iconic Chanel pieces like tweed blazers and pencils skirts. Karl Lagerfeld added a modern twist to some of the blazers and cropped jackets by making the zipper resemble a leather bomber jacket.

Aside from tweed a lot of unique materials were incorporated into the traditional Chanel look. Feathers were added to blazers and mid length dresses. Jumpsuits were made out of a pink, metallic material with sheer overlay with diamond statement jewelry pieces.
One style of dress was seen throughout the show in almost every type of material; a mid length button down dress.

Airplanes were a major theme throughout the whole collection, not just the show venue. A red, white and blue airplane pattern was seen everywhere. It was on sweaters, dresses, blouses and airplane broaches dressed up jumpsuits.

Chanel is supporting a new, taboo trend; denim and workwear. A brand known for it’s classy and sophisticated look has incorporated a casual material into its collection. Models walked in floral printed denim dresses and flared trousers. Keep an eye out for what this means for corporate dress code.

The male models looked dapper in suits.

Models wore reflective, goggle sunglasses, over the shoulder purses and snapbacks to accessorize their outfits. Thier glam was of another galaxy. They had sky blue eye shadow from eye to eye.
Some well known faces were seen on the runway, like Kendall Jenner and Binx Walton, and in the audience, like Amy Tastely and Saint Vincent. Karl Lagerfeld brought retired model Cara Delevingne with him during his finale runway walk.
