Curly girl hair routine

By  |

Maintaining curly hair does require some hard work. But remember, “Beauty is pain”. No matter, how beautiful you are born, you need to put some efforts to maintain it in order to look like the best possible version of yourself. Waking up from your bed and walking out without having to style your hair can no longer be an unfulfilled dream if you follow a proper routine for your hair. You no longer have to torture your hair with loads of heat every time you step out of your room. Instead, embrace your lovely locks and save the heat for extremely important occasions. You are in fact blessed with texture in your hair and you should celebrate that every day!!Let’s dig deeper into the details about curly hair routine.

Always remember that curly hair craves for moisture and by exposing your hair to heat, you are stripping it off the little moisture it has. Learn to satisfy your hair’s moisture cravings and you will be ready to rock the lovely, bouncing curls. Every little step matters. Start your journey right from the shower. Don’t wash your hair with hot water. Using lukewarm water does the trick of loosening the dirt and oils. Finish with cold water to seal the cuticle and lock in the shine. Ditch your chemical filled shampoos and start a new love affair with sulfate-free, silicon-free, moisture-rich shampoos. Wash your hair with shampoo no more than twice a week. If you have extremely curly hair, use shampoo no more than once a week. Choose good quality conditioners and use it every time you shampoo your hair.  Apple cider vinegar is by far, my favorite natural conditioner, which neutralizes the PH of the scalp, locks in shine and moisture. If you feel the need to wash your hair in between the two washes, opt for the co-washing method. Washing your hair with conditioner may sound weird at first but once you get the hang of it, you will fall in love with it. After getting out of the shower, scrunch your hair with a t-shirt and let it air dry. If using the blow-dryer is a must, make sure that you use a good quality diffuser to prevent frizz.. Use a good quality curl holding serum. Invest in a good leave in conditioner or a lightweight oil to provide extra moisture. The trick here is to provide extra moisture to your hair and at the same time, make sure that your locks are not weighing down. My favorite leave in oil is the Coconut Beautifying oil by BodyShop. Also, jojoba oil and rosehip oil work great.

Use a Rosewater or Rosemary hair mist to provide shine, moisture and strength to your hair. Carry this in your purse wherever you go because you can never predict the mood of your curls. They may get frizzy and dry when exposed to outside air and in such times, a hair mist can be your bestie and a life savior. Always give your hair that extra love and nourishment by treating it with hair masks. There are a ton of hair masks you can try out- whether homemade or store brought. My first preference is always homemade masks as real, unprocessed ingredients go into their preparation and the best part is you know what you are putting onto your hair. However, if you don’t have much time or if you are not a DIY kind of person, store bought conditioners always come to your rescue. My favorite deep conditioners so far are: Macadamia Deep Repair Masque and Aussie 3 minute miracle. Regular hot oil treatments are must to ensure proper growth and nourishment to your hair. Add in some essential oils to your hair oil treatments and watch the wonders they make on your hair. Jojoba, avocado, coconut, mustard, almond and olive oils are my favorite carrier oils and peppermint, rosemary are my favorite essential oils.  Take a nutrient rich diet and if needed, take supplements like biotin and fish oil. Get rid off the cotton pillow cases and bring home some satin pillow cases. Cotton cloth creates static and leaves you with frizzy, dry hair. Trim your split ends regularly and use vitamin E oil on your ends if you are prone to more split ends.

Follow all these steps regularly, at least a few of them and you will see that your straw-like, dry, frizzy hair looks no longer the same again.  Your hair will thank you for all the love and care you gave it.
