Mela – No Thanks

Think back a mere 5 years ago, and picture just how tan everyone once was.  My TimeHop will remind me of my once Snooky-esque skin color when I log onto Facebook now and then.  Luckily in the past couple years pale skin has been somewhat embraced.  More and more people are shading themselves from the sun completely to avoid getting tan, and also the obvious aging that it causes the skin.

Although I had a tanning membership, I wasn’t an every day visitor as most of my friends were (girls and guys).  I am half Hispanic so once I have a tan it holds really well, and is more bronze than orange.  Lucky me right?  Unfortunately, around the age of 20 I went to the dermatologist to get rid of an ugly mole.  I later found out this mole was cancerous, and after multiple surgeries on my calf they extracted all of the toxic cells.

It’s still shocking to me that something such as skin cancer could happen in someone so young.  Also, someone with more olive skin that rarely burnt in their lifetime. This is why it’s so important to protect your skin when exposed to the sun, and have a full body exam once a year.

I now have uber sensitive skin, and go to great lengths to prevent any sun damage.  Whether you wear a lot of makeup (such as I) or not, here are some amazing products to protect your skin this summer and all year round.

Cerave Spf 50 Body Lotion

I wore this for Coachella in the desert for three days straight with barely there clothing, and was not burnt once.

Hourglass Mineral Primer SPF 15

Living in California I actually wear this everyday underneath my makeup.  Not only does it prevent my skin from getting oily throughout the day, but also protects my face from burning.

Murad Invisiblur Perfection Shield SPF 30

For a day when I am outdoors a lot, or going to the beach I use this instead of the Hourglass primer.  It has skincare benefits, blurs imperfections on the skin, and has a higher SPF.

Coola Face SPF 30 Setting Spray

This is one of my favorite setting sprays, as it gives me double the protection (along with my primer).  I often wear makeup down my neck and sometimes on my chest, and will spray this over it as well to set.

Coola Sport Continuous Spray SPF 30 (Many scents available)

I love that this sunscreen smells amazing.  They have a scent to appease everyone, and the easy spray bottle is essential.  Also, this sunscreen isn’t in the least bit sticky, and there is no white residue.

These products make it fun to be safe in the sun!  Don’t make the same mistakes I did, and start protecting yourself from skin cancer now.  Mela – No Thanks!
