Paris’ British Designer, Gareth Pugh, Sparks His Way to NYFW

By  |

Obstruct things are coming to us for NYFW and it’s safe to say, we cannot complain one bit!

Paris’ British room-shaker designer, Gareth Pugh, is making his way to New York City for one of the most exciting times of the year. His spot has been held in Paris’ Fashion week for the past six years and not only does he want to do it all different this time around, but he wants to change cities completely and we accept him with open arms.

Pugh is best known for his futureomic, badass gal kicking, out the box thinking, sleek designs, which has blessed Paris’ runways. As he tells the New York Times, he will have an “immersive live performance” for the opening of the shows including live dancers and a video.

Making others think outside of the box is what he is trying to do. “There’s a point at which old archetypes need to change. Fashion is very stuck in its ways, and I wanted to represent something that would make people think, and maybe move the needle a bit.” The communication during the shows of the appearance of the clothes is always important of course, but to Pugh selling the dream is also held up high, along with it.

Here are 4 reasons we think he’ll definitely make a hit during NYFW:

  • As stated before, his futureomic, badass gal kicking, out the box thinking, sleek designs are looks that are appealing to the eye. Who wouldn’t want to feel that way in clothing?
  • Pugh has been able to get a following of many successful people in the industry such as, Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Anna Wintour. If that doesn’t convince you, then I have no idea what else can.
  • Not only has he been part of Paris Fashion Week for the past six years but he has also been part of London Fashion Week in 2005. The more fashion weeks to be a part of, the merrier we are.
  • Last but not least, he is a designer who always seems to keep everyone on their toes. A little anticipation leads to great things!

All in all, taking the risk with changing cities, creating a performance to entice others’ thinking and making an imaginative experience overall has him worried of how the outcome will be, but as he says, “…I think it’s good to light a fire under your bum every once in a while.” We’ll be watching closely for that spark.
