If there’s one thing New York City does not lack, it’s good steakhouses. Sometimes it can be difficult to pick one out of all of them for that special meal. Ben & Jack’s Steakhouse adds yet another diverse option to the array of fine dining options in the city.
Ben & Jack’s Steakhouse was founded by Ben and Jack Sinanaj, long-time waiters at the famous Peter Luger’s steakhouse. After learning all they could, in 2005 they opened their own steakhouse a short distance from Grand Central Station. Eventually, this one location grew in size, as the duo opened a larger location near Penn Station and the Empire State Building. This is their current home, replete with subdued ‘boys club’ décor and numerous delicious meal options.
Most steakhouses have an air of austere formality about them, a reflection of the high price tags their meals command. Ben & Jack’s takes the standard steakhouse formality and strips it down, trading stuffy atmosphere for a relaxing environment. The bar area is furnished in beautiful medium-tone woods, its tall chairs upholstered in red leather. The main dining area features equally-rich wood paneling, warm colors, and artwork which is subdued yet eye-catching. For larger parties or those looking for an intimate place to celebrate, private rooms cordoned off with frosted and etched glass panels can be reserved for up to 250 guests.
Ben & Jack’s is best known for their steaks. The steakhouse offers Midwestern prime porterhouse steaks, which are dry-aged in house. The steaks are available in various sizes; the signature 44 ounce cut can serve up to 4 people. Other meal options include Chilean Sea Bass, Grilled Norwegian Salmon, seafood pasta, and a 4lb. jumbo lobster, which can be served broiled or steamed. The bar menu is a good option for those who just want some oysters or a cheese platter to go with a drink or two. The bar also boasts an extensive wine list, featuring both red and white wines from vineyards all over the world.
So whether you’re looking for a venue for your next party or a place for a nice intimate dinner, Ben & Jack’s Steakhouse has all the bases covered in their own classic style.
