Private jet at an airline price

By  |

Say good-bye to security lines or TSA pat-downs and hello to cushy leather seats and legroom for days. Little Fido can sit curled up right next to you while you relax with friends and family. The perks of flying on a private jet used to be something only the rich and famous enjoyed.   But, if you know how to shop smartly, a private jet can cost the same or even less than a commercial flight.

It is estimated that around 40% of all private jet flights are flying empty.  Taking advantage of an empty leg flight is easier than you think.  According to Carmena Ayo, Co-founder of The Private Jet Crew, “Flying privately has become more affordable to the average consumer by doing the option of what’s called ‘empty leg air travel” which can be as low as $600.

When a charter jet is scheduled for a one-way flight from New York to Los Angeles, the charter plane still needs to fly back to home-base or to its next destination.   The pilot must fly regardless of whether the plane is empty or not.   These “empty leg” flights are offered at a discounted rate up to 75% just to cover the cost of flying.   Here are a few tips to find a charter jet for your next trip:

Be flexible

The best deals are usually 72 hours before you would like to fly.   But even if you would like to give yourself a little more time to plan your trip, you can book the trip a little further in advance.

Bring a group

Unlike booking a seat on an airline, you are booking a plane.  Planning to bring a group of people will help cut down your cost.  Many times, it is cheaper to charter an empty leg flight with a group then book on everyone on a commercial carrier.

Book common destinations

According to The Private Jet Crew the most popular U.S. destinations are New York, Miami, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Los Angeles.  Private jets fly internationally too.  London, Paris, Japan, Italy and Amsterdam are some of the more popular places to visit.

Find a good broker

A broker such as The Private Jet Crew can do the heavy work for you.  They are the experts and will be able to work with you to find a jet that will suit your needs.
