The MTV VMA Awards are always a great show and August 31st was no exception. Taylor Swift had a surprise performance and cleared up the bad blood with Nicki Minaj. Miley Cyrus hosted the awards. Justin Bieber showed off his new ‘do and performed his new single, “What Do You Mean?”. While the awards were entertaining, the style was even better this year. Black seemed to be a common theme throughout the appearances on the red carpet. Here are the best looks of the night:

Best-Dressed
Taylor Swift and her squad, which included Selena Gomez, Lily Aldridge, Karlie Kloss, Gigi Hadid, Serena Williams and Hailee Steinfield. The whole squad was dressed in their fiercest looks. Swift wore a sparkling black and gold Ashish two piece while her squad wore gorgeous gowns from Saint Laurent to Calvin Klien.

Best-Dressed-Chrissy-Tiegan
Chrissy Tiegan wore a gorgeous sheer, floor length dress from Marchesa. She was not alone walking the red carpet, Tiegan’s husband, John Legend, was her date. Together the A list couple looked perfect.

Best-Dressed-Demi-Lovato
Demi Lovato went pastel and wore a gorgeous pink minidress by Nicolas Jebran. It had beautiful silver detail. For Lovato’s “Cool for The Summer” performance she made a change into the black and purple onesie seen in the music video.

Best-Dressed-Vanessa-Hudgens
Vanessa Hudgens arrived with sister, Stella, looking like gypsy goddesses. Both Hudgens wore floor length lacey gowns that accentuated their bohemian style. Vanessa Hudgens had beautiful white flower hair pieces throughout her curly locks adding the perfect touch to her gown by Naeem Khan.

Best-Dressed-Emily-Ratajkowski
Emily Ratajkowski kept with the black theme and wore a black and gold Altuzarra dress. The Sports Illustrated model added some edge to the dress with thigh high matching boots.
