Don’t let the heat dictate your lipstick game. If you fear feathered and messy lipstick because of the high temperatures, liquid lip stains, lip pencils, and matte lipsticks are for you. All three are trending this summer in a variety of colors, but I have the scoop on four dupes of the hottest degree.
The “Your Lips but Better”
Instead of MAC’s $17 Twig Lipstick opt for Maybelline’s nearly-identical Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Touch of Spice for only $8. The formula applies smooth yet dries with a matte finish. This lip is great for everyday wear and complements every skin tone and makeup look.
The “Kylie Jenner”
The infamous mauve-tone can be seen all over Instagram and could cost you a pretty penny. The most famous color is MAC’s Faux paired with the lip liner Whirl. When these items go out of stock (and they will) or if you don’t feel comfortable spending $16.50 on a lip pencil, you can head towards your local Ulta or Target to pick up NYX’s Flutter Kisses. For only $6 you get a super-rich finish. Or to tone your lips down, you can always transition to a matte lip with translucent powder.
The “Bold Dark Cherry”
When full-face makeup is not an option for a hot summer day, choosing a bold lip color is an effortless way to still be glamorous with no worry of a runny mess. Although dark lips are considered to be more of a winter/fall trend, it works well for summer time, especially summer nights. The NARS Velvet Lip Liner in Belle Mare is a beautiful wine color, but at a cheaper price there is the similar e.l.f. Essential Long-Wear Lipliner Pencil in Bitter for only $1. Not only does it provide the same bold color, but it is just as long-lasting.
The “Hot Red”
Classic red is in during every season and summer is no exception. Red lips pair well with anyone and essentially anything. They easily bring a pop of color to your look. You could purchase the Sephora Collection Cream Lip Stain in 01 Always Red for $14 or you could snap up the Revlon ColorBurst Matte Balm in Striking for under $6. It has a matte finish while also having moisturizing properties like shea, mango and coconut butter.
