Let’s Get Ready to Rumble… Again!

By  |

“I’m going to do a lot more physical training for this fight because it is safe to say I’m not fighting a boxer, I’m facing an MMA fighter,” Floyd Mayweather addressed the roughhouse tactics used by Marcos Maidana regarding their fight bout.

And so “Mayhem” begins, Mayweather has officially started his five city promotional tour for his rematch against Maidana, September 13 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas. With hundreds of screaming fans in Time Square, it was clear Mayweather was in NYC, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, ready to put his undefeated record on the line once again. When you are the best, you have no problem proving it over and over again to remind them why you are the best.

Let’s take it back to May 3rd but first let’s talk about gloves. Before the fight even started, there was a disagreement with the gloves Maidana wanted to use. Mayweather pointed out there was not enough padding around the knuckle area. Even after the Nevada State Athletic Commission agreed to a replacement pair, Mayweather was not having it. Al Haymon, an advisor to both, took control of the situation and negotiated that Maidana would be receiving $1.5 million to wear whatever gloves Mayweather deemed appropriate.

Time to talk stats! Floyd Mayweather is 46-0 with 26 knockouts. Stating the obvious, he is undefeated. Marcos Maidana is 34-4 with 31 knockouts. After the first fight and what looked like Mayweather’s first lost, the judges thought different and scored the match a draw. Reason being, Mayweather landed 230 out of 426 punches on Maidana while Maidana threw 858 punches but only landed 221. You do the math. Controversy over.

Fun fact. Giving credit where credit is due, Maidana did land the most punches against Mayweather in the last 38 fights than anyone else.

Now onto the next important matter… where will everyone be watching Mayhem?
