Ray Rice, Go To Your Room!

By  |

Complete outrage. Twitter has been blowing up with outraged NFL fans who know a penalty for hitting a woman should be a lot worse than a penalty for substance abuse. I would have to agree. Maybe it’s because society is so used to the fact that athletes play with women like they play with toys, either way – it is unacceptable.

Lane Johnson of Philadelphia, was suspended four games for substance abuse, along with Ace Sanders of Jacksonville, Dion Jordan of Miami, Spencer Nealy of Minnesota and the list goes on. LaVon Brazill, an undrafted free agent from Boise State, is suspended damn near a year for violating the league’s substance abuse policy and all you can give Ray Rice is a 2 game suspension?

It’s not an accusation that Rice dragged his fiancée out of the elevator, there was a video. We saw him drag her out of the elevator and then, we saw him leave her there… We applaud him for coming back for her later on (and yes, that was sarcasm) but with as many work outs as he participates in, he couldn’t carry his future wife to their hotel room? That’s the least he could have done.

“It’s not a big deal, it’s part of the process. There are consequences when you make a mistake like that. I stand behind Ray. He’s a heck of a guy. He’s done everything right since. He makes a mistake, alright? He’s going to have to pay a consequence. I think that’s good for kids to understand it works that way. That’s how it works, that’s how it should be,” said John Harbaugh.

It’s not a big deal? I lost respect right there. A consequence for hitting a woman is not a 2 game suspension. That’s a “you’re in time out” for a 13 year old and I’m pretty sure 13 year olds are too frickin’ old to be put in time out. What the NFL just taught little boys nationwide is “it’s okay to put your hands on a woman if you’re an outstanding athlete.” That wasn’t the intent of your message, was it? Okay then. Reevaluate.

Disgusted isn’t even the word. Roger Goodell, you have some explaining to do.
