Another Day, Another Procedure for Kim Kardashian

By  |

Kim Kardashian is on a relentless quest to perfection. This 33-year-old mom shocked numerous plastic surgeons with her recent lip augmentation, while she was expecting. Some have suggested that she has been getting Botox in other areas of her face as well, due to her lack of wrinkles and her flawlessly smooth skin.
Botox is a cosmetic filler used for a variety of reasons. Certain reasons are considered medical, such as chronic migraines, crossed eyes, and muscle spasms. However, it is generally known for its cosmetic uses. Botox is commonly used to treat fine lines and wrinkles. It reduces facial wrinkles when injected into the muscles that cause the wrinkles, and causing them to become immobile. This immobilizing affect is temporary, and when the muscles relax, the treated area will appear smooth and wrinkle free.
New York area cosmetic surgeon, Dr. Ramtin Kassir, commented, “I advise my expectant patients against fillers,” although he did not treat Kim he explained, “Botox is a big no-no because you don’t want any potential transfer to the baby.”

The safety of Botox, and other similar fillers, is a gray area for pregnant women. Although no clinical studies have been performed, there have been studies on pregnant animals that have shown an association with Botox and abnormalities in the fetus. The Botox website states that it is unknown if Botox will cause harm to an unborn baby. Additionally, there is caution about using Botox while breastfeeding. It’s unknown if it can be carried through the breast milk and have affect the baby.

Since it’s designed to stay centralized in the treatment area, there is a general consensus that there is a relatively small chance that Botox could have an effect on pregnancy. However, there is still a possibility of adverse effects on the baby should the Botox enter the blood stream.

As a result, there is a policy to not administer Botox, or similar treatments, during pregnancy. Most doctors consider it unethical. Therefore, expectant mothers should choose to follow Dr. Kassir’s advice, and avoid getting Botox during their pregnancy.

It appears that Kim Kardashian chose to ignore the potential harm to her baby. She has received plenty of media attention for her weight gain from pregnancy, and has supposedly become very insecure because of it. According to family members, she has become obsessed with her looks, since becoming pregnant, and will go to any length to preserve her beauty. This has led to great public backlash, which hopefully will teach Kim to be safer in the future.
