Columbus’s 1st Annual Derby Day

By  |

This past weekend Huntington Park was filled with gorgeous hats and beautiful sundresses for Columbus’s 1st Annual Derby Day event benefiting Barrier Breakers and Goodwill. As you entered on the red carpet there were plenty of photo opportunities with the Derby horse that made you feel like a celebrity. The event was held on the club level of the stadium and looked out onto the jumbo tron with the horse races and downtown Columbus as a backdrop. Great location. The signature drink was the peach mint julep, which was perfectly refreshing for the 80 degrees day. With live music playing, silent auctions being held and delicious hor d’oeuvres circling around, everyone was enjoying themselves and the races.

The hats were in full force as well. There was everything from the outrageously bright giant hat to the classy floral fascinators. Whether it was borrowed from a mother in law or had been sitting in the closet waiting to be worn, everyone was wearing their hat with total confidence and excitement. And the women weren’t the only ones who dressed to impress, the men were dressed from head to toe as well. There were gentlemen wearing full pastel suits, suspenders, bow ties, and even some who whipped out their custom made suits. The Derby is always a great time to get creative with your outfits and see some awesome outfits. Why can’t every day be derby day!
