3 Tips on Mastering Off-Duty Model Style

By  |

Lately, it seems like everywhere you turn there are paparazzi pictures of super models casually walking through the airport or shopping through the city looking effortlessly stylish. Typically known for walking the catwalk in high-end designer fashion, it seems that these days’ models are getting more attention for what they wear off the runway rather than on.

It’s true that one thing models like Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner and Rosie Huntington-Whitely all have in common is that they have mastered the art of taking the runway to the streets and making it wearable. Millions of fashionistas around the world follow them on Instagram and other social media outlets to see what they will wear next and how they can re-create the looks for themselves. And while they all have bodies that can pretty much make anything look attractive, their style is surprisingly easy to replicate given the right formula. Follow these 3 simple tips and you will be looking like an off-duty model in no time!

Tip #1: Keep it casual

One common theme to dressing like an off-duty model is to keep your outfit super casual. Models are always on the go traveling to their next job so comfort is key. Distressed skinny jeans, leather moto jackets and comfortable boots are all considered to be key staples in all of the it-girls wardrobes. The goal here is to create that effortless look. They all look like they just threw something on; when in reality each piece is carefully coordinated and styled to perfection.

Tip #2: Mix high and low

Super models are no strangers to free swag so they tend to always have the latest designer clothes, shoes and handbags. The thing that makes their looks so wearable is that they are known for taking high priced items like a Balenciaga handbag and pairing them with a crop top from Zara or a Balmain blazer with a pair of Rag & Bone Boots. Not everything on the runway translates to the streets so knowing how to mix and match these items is key to pulling off this look. Some key high-end staples include a good designer handbag, leather leggings and a structured blazer. You can pair these expensive designer items with less expensive pieces like a simple t-shirt, fedora and sunglasses. Knowing where to invest and where to save is critical in styling the perfect look.

Tip #3: Master the art of layering

When you’re on the go traveling around the world, layering is key. These girls may be hopping on a plane in sunny LA and getting off in rainy cold London. So almost all of them have layering down to a science. To get this look, try adding a loose fitting trench coat over a fitted tank top or a baggy sweater over a crop top. Scarves can also be a good way to layer your look. The key is to be able to add on or peel off layers that coordinate as the day goes on.
