With Columbus being the 3rd largest city for fashion, these events are awesome for local designers to show off their hard work and premier their newest collections. For the grand finale there will be a Finale Runway show held on October 10th at The Columbus Atheneum. Here the top designers and fashion goers all get together to admire beautiful pieces. Persona Custom Clothiers is a customized men’s wear brand that specializes in helping men make a statement and achieve that GQ look. Their motto “You define it, we design it” is all about making men feel special. The customized tuxedos are to make the groom at his wedding, feel just as special as the bride. The idea that men should be able to make outfit statements as well. The designer, Zuir, started his creative career back in the “golden era of Hip-Hop” where he was a DJ and graffiti artist. His graffiti found its way onto the back of Levi’s Jean Jackets and pants. From there, he developed an eye for good looking clothing and molded that talent into his brand of tuxedos and suits. He describes the style of his collection as “Classic men’s suit styling meets runway couture”, with the idea of flawless transition for the stylish professional from work to evening wear. The suits are designed to allow men to make a “statement” on business trips to Vegas or Miami but also conduct business. Women, don’t worry, Persona Custom Clothiers plans to take on the women’s market, with custom purses, leather goods and eventually home goods. Koch Bridal will be showing a bridal collection like you have never seen before. All of her elegant dresses are made out of denim! Yes that is right, denim bridal gowns that are beautifully made for the more casual weddings. Melissa Koch gained interest in the design world back in 2007 when Balenciaga debuted the robot legging. She was instantly inspired to work at mixing utility and art together. After earning her Fashion Design degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising she went on to learn about pattern making. Soon enough she was starting her own line of denim bridal gowns. Her inspiration comes from storybook illustrations “the drawings are so simple but full of texture; this is what I envisioned for each dress.” With this inspiration she manipulates the denim fabric and creates embellishments to make her pieces one of a kind in the bridal industry. The style of her pieces are “effortless but elegant. Clean-cut silhouettes are figure friendly and delicately draped” and made for the modern bride. As of now all her dresses are made of denim, but she hopes to work with new basics and construction in the future. Interested in a denim gown? They are made to order at www.kochbridal.com.

Kelley Elyse Designs will be debuting both her bridal and her “Voyage” collections during this year’s Fashion Week Columbus. As a young girl she dreamed of being an artist and made that dream a reality, “I am pursuing my dreams of creating and designing my own line and I am incredibly blessed to be living out my childhood dream of being an artist!”. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fashion Design from Ursuline College and had an amazing opportunity to study abroad in Paris during undergrad. Her collection “Voyage” was inspired by her time in Paris, where she mastered couture technique from former Madame Grés couturiers. The collection features “beautiful draping techniques used by Madame Grés and the classic forms that Balenciaga brought to life in the 1950s”. It also has an edgier side with a black and white color scheme with pops of red. She used a fabric called neoprene, inspired by designer KENZO, which allowed her to create those dramatic shapes. For the Wedding Runway show she will be debuting a non-traditional bridal collection using cotton-lycra fabric. Fashion Week Columbus, her first show since graduation, won’t be her last. She plans on expanding her brand and showing her collections in New York, Paris, and Milan in the future. Contact Kelley at kelleyelyse@yahoo.com for custom bridal orders and keep an eye out for her website www.kelleyelysedesigns.com coming soon.
