Get Active and Fit for Free in Central Ohio

Happy New Year! Time to pack up all the holiday decorations and work on making 2016 a better year than 2015 right?  Many of us have set our goals for the new year and are ready to improve our relationships, finances, health and much more!

Well why not improve your finances along with your health by taking advantage of some of the many free, or cheap, health classes around town!  Put up the wallet and lace up your tennis shoes it’s time to get fit on a budget.

Luluemon Easton:

Every Sunday retailer Luluemon at Easton Town Center host Sunday Funday with Yoga at the Yard.  A free one hour yoga class for all levels with rotating instructors starting at 11am.  All you need to bring with you is a yoga mat and any accessories that you might require.  No registration is needed just show up!

Thursday evening’s retailer Luluemon Polaris host Ptown Run Club lead by Teresa Gellenbeck.  Join this social run club in Downtown Dublin at the P town center lot near Starbucks for a 6:30pm group run.  This weekly run is typically 3-4 miles long so bring water.  No registration is required and bringing friends is encouraged.

Starting in May and wrapping in September the City of Columbus and United Health Care offers a variety of fitness classes every MondayTuesday, Wednesday and Saturday taught by Ohio Fit Club instructors.  Classes offered are Boot Camp, Kickboxing, Interval Training, Hip Hop Dance, Yoga and Zumba.  These free classes are held in the beautiful Columbus Commons park in the heart of downtown and only require you to fill out a release form.  Once you fill out this form you are welcome to attend as many classes your heart desires!

Easton Town Center retailer L.L. Bean doesn’t exactly offer free fitness classes, but they offer Outdoor Discover School Adventures.  A wide array of classes that can prepare you for outdoor activities from snowshoeing, hiking, fly-fishing, paddle boarding and more.  Most classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and are free.  However, classes have limited space and do require pre-registration.

 

Columbus Metropolitan Parks:

Year round the Columbus Metro Parks host a wide array of events from yoga, skiing to all season hiking for all ages.  Dates and times for all classes are updated regularly on the metro parks website.  Some classes require pre-registration so please be sure to read all the details about every activity you are interested in.

 

Columbus Meet Up Groups:

Meet up is an awesome website where people of specific interest plan to meet up and participate in a shared activity together.  On meet up Columbus there are several fitness interest groups such as Brown Girls in Columbus, Sports Monster Columbus Volleyball, Swing Dancing Columbus and groups specific to metro neighborhoods to name a few.  There is typically no fee to join a group however, depending on chosen group activity a cost could incour.

Bend Active Classes:

Bend Active is a local fitfashion clothing store that partners up with several studios around town to offer free classes almost every week.  Everything from Yoga to Belly Dancing is offered free but space is limited and pre-registration is typically required.
