Taylor Swift v. Kanye West

By  |

The drama between Kanye West and Taylor Swift has not calmed down since it began in 2009. Now seven years later it is more heated than ever before. West refers to Swift as a “bitch” in his track, “Famous”, and there has been debate on whether or not Swift approved of it. West had supposedly called her about the lyric and it was all agreed on until the track was released. Swift claimed to never approved of it, but there was a video of the phone conversation that may prove otherwise. Now legal action is being taken against Kim Kardashian West, who leaked the video via Snapchat, and Kanye West.

It all started back in 2009 at the VMAs, when Taylor Swift won “Song of The Year”. During her acceptance speech Kanye West interrupted her and shared his thoughts that Beyonce should have won for her song “Single Ladies”.

At the 2015 MTV  VMAs, Swift and West had appeared to settle their difference when she presented him with his award and posed for photos together and with his wife, Kim Kardashian West.

Now seven years later, it is all being rehashed.

Kanye West released his newest album, “The Life of Pablo”, on February 14. His track, “Famous”, refers to what happened between Swift and West and says:

“For all my Southside niggas that know me best

I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex

Why? I made that bitch famous

God damn

I made that bitch famous”[1]

Swift and her team denied ever agreeing to being referenced in such a derogatory manner.

West then took to Twitter saying that he called Taylor and had a hour long convo with her about the line.” He also said she had even helped write the lyric.[2]

West then released the music video to “Famous” in July, which featured many celebrities’ wax figures naked in bed, including Swift. This stirred up trouble all over again.

Kim Kardashian West stood up for her husband and told GQ, “She totally approved that. She totally knew that that was coming out. She wanted to all of a sudden act like she didn’t. I swear, my husband gets so much shit for things [when] he really was doing proper protocol and even called to get it approved.”[3]

She also said there was video proof of the phone call that would make Swift out to be a liar.

Sunday, this whole debacle was a major topic of discussion on Keeping Up With The Kardashians. After the episode aired Kardashian West took to her Snapchat and showed the whole world the recording of the phone conversation in which Swift says “it’s a compliment” to be in the track.  [4]Read the full transcript of the conversation here.  Taylor Swift threatened legal action against Kanye West for recording the phone conversation without her knowledge back in February.

A letter from her lawyer to Kanye’s lawyer made it clear that anyone who secretly records a telephone conversation commits a criminal offense under California law. The conversation between Swift and West was recorded in a L.A. studio according to TMZ.

The letter also said, “Demand is hereby made that you immediately destroy all such recordings, provide us of assurance that this has been done, and also assurance that these recordings have not been previously disseminated.”  [5]Now, Swift has a legal case against Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West.
