Over 50 and Fabulous

By  |

If you’re 50ish and feel like you’re long past your peak, you’re so wrong. Now that you don’t have to be a full-time mom and work 28 hours a day, it’s time you rise and shine, just for yourself. It’s time to change the way you look and feel. Here’s some advice on how to get there. Let’s start with a bit of fashion:

Shape

As the time passes, it’s inevitable that, your body will change. Gravity and metabolism are doing their thing and, instead of despairing and cursing the years and nature, embrace the changes, and use them.

In order to make sure your clothing fits well, it’s important to know your shape. The last thing you want to do is accentuate the potential extra around your stomach or hips with a belt that will make you look like a cupcake. Instead, go for contrasts. Feel free to combine well-tailored pants and jeans with a shirt or a nice sweater for your go-to outfit.

For a more glamorous occasion, such as a wedding or some other celebration, a waisted knee-length dress with a boat neck is all you need. Pair it all up with some classy earrings and a nice shawl for the complete effect.

Colors

What you need to know and remember is that colors are your friends. This doesn’t mean you should walk around looking like a rainbow, but you also shouldn’t stick with black, white, grey, and dull brown. Choose your favorites and be daring. Shades of navy and dark red, teal, and some lighter counterparts like beige will make you look very stylish.

Here you need to pay attention to makeup, as well. You already know that twenty-something makeup won’t work on your skin, but that only means that you need to change the way you wear it, not abandon it completely. First and foremost, invest in good and quality brands. Find your foundation tone and go easy on it. Don’t overdo your eyes, but opt for light smokey eye combined with a lipstick of a lighter shade. Finish it all with a light bronzer and/or highlighter for the cheekbones. And another thing – eyebrows. No matter how bold they look nowadays, all you need to do is shape and fill them with a light pencil or a brush.

If you’re concerned with your hands, and that they reveal too much, remember to moisturize them daily, and do your nails in colors such as nude, or pastel.

Here’s a bit of an extra advice: sequins aren’t completely forbidden. Nails, shoes, or a shawl with some sparkle can only complement you.

And last but not the least…lifestyle

Now that you’ve learned all the tricks about the looks, it’s time to focus on the quality of life. At 50-something, you have time to do all the things you never had time for, and you should use it well. Take up some fun lessons in whatever interests you, read new books, get a new hobby. Spend time with friends who make you feel good and young at heart. Also, if you haven’t heard about over 50’s villages, it’s time to get informed. This is a great way to start over, in a beautiful environment, with people similar to you who may become great friends. The resorts also offer a variety of activities, from sports to relaxing by the pool.

So, all in all, 50 and plus certainly doesn’t mean you’re done with beauty, style, fun, friends, and life. It only means that now you have more time to dedicate to yourself and completely enjoy it.
