How did you get started in your profession?

I have always been an athlete, all through my school year. Once got my degree I jumped into brainstorming how I could build a career around helping others change their lives with fitness.

When was your “ah-ha” moment when you realized you had found your calling?

I trained my first client for a fitness competition. She worked so hard and I was with her every step of the way. I trained her, wrote her nutrition plan, helped her with her posing routine, heled designing her bikini, you name it.  When she achieved her goal I felt as happy and accomplished as I did when I stepped on stage for the first time.

You’ve ventured into modeling with great success and you look absolutely amazing. What is the thing you love the most about your own personal journey into fitness?

Learning how to properly use weight training  and nutrition to fuel and shape my body has truly changed my life. I was always athletic but I wasn’t always healthy. I used to be underweight and very unhappy with the way I looked, despite how hard I trained. Gaining knowledge of how weight training and eating more could help me get into the best shape of my life is the best thing that ever happened to me- physically and mentally.

Move With Janine” is a fitness community that you designed specifically for women, can you tell us about that and how your clients and members are succeeding?

Move is a hiit style home workout, eating plan and mindset coaching program which I designed especially for woman to change their life’s through a plan that fits into their busy schedules. It allows clients to record their progress and we have seen some amazing life changing transformations. The best thing is to see how supportive the girls have been towards each other.

What things or people motivate you the most? I set goals to continually beat the person I was yesterday. This is what motivates me the most because competing against yourself is the most rewarding.  What’s your favorite quote or mantra?

If you want something you have never had, then you must be prepared to do something that  you have never done.

What does your typical day look like?

I’m up early to get my workout in before I start my day, which means 6am, I go to the gym to do my cardio and weigh training which usually takes about 90 minutes, I rush home to  shower and eat before heading off to train my personal training clients for the day. Around lunch time I check emails and write programs and meal plans for my online clients and then its back to work until about 8pm when I get home and then I’m usually brainstorming new ideas to implement for my business or going for an evening walk to wind down before bed at about 10.30pm. The weeks are usually jam packed for me and because I have dedicated these years of my life to building a business I don’t do “fun” things during the week and I have very little down time- but I’m ok with that because I love what I do. I try to use the weekends to meet up with friends as much as I can.

Can you describe your typical meals for:

First thing upon waking: a cup warm water, aloe and lemon or on tough mornings a cup of coffee.

Morning: 1 cup of oats, a ½ banana and some blueberries with dash of honey and 4 egg whites.

Lunch: black bean wrap with avo and mixed greens and some fruit

Dinner: 3 oz of salmon with a cup of quinoa, steamed asparagus and lemon.

Snacks or sweets: protein smoothies, nuts, fruits and if I’m in a hurry sometimes a protein or granola bar.

Favorite beverage: I drink a lot of water everyday. But for a treat a white chocolate mocha blended with ice.

If you could only pick one thing to eat for the rest of your life what would that be?

Pizza with unlimited toppings

What are your favorite songs on your workout playlist right now?

As long as it high energy it gets me powered up.

What makes you happy? What brings you the most joy?

Seeing my clients achieve goals that they never believed were possible in the beginning.

What’s your go to “pick me up” exercises that makes you instantly feel better or energized?

Barbell squats are powerful movements that make me feel accomplished and energized. Some days when I’m feeling tired I lift my heaviest weight, its all about channeling positive energy and focusing on my goal.

All of these dance classes, pilates, fitness yoga and zumba etc – do you consider them a real workout, or just a light type of physical activity that makes you feel better through boosting your endorphin levels but has no real impact on shape?

I do believe that weight training is the absolute best way to change your bodies shape, but I do also believe that you should include things that you enjoy into your exercise program so that you can love it enough to make it a lifestyle.

Why do you think your style of fitness training is so effective? How does it differ from other trainers?

I personalize every clients workout and nutrition plan to something that is going to work for them. I gather as much information as I can about their goals, body shape, available time, level of commitment, personality and then put together the best plan that is going to work for their life. It’s easy to design programs, but it takes really knowing and understanding your client and working closely with them to get them to their goals. I don’t have one specific style of training- my style is customization.

What is one of the most memorable reactions or success stories you’ve received from the women you train and work with?

I have a client who has lost 165 pounds so far working with me. Her life has completely changed, she has so much confidence, she is completely mobile and her pain has been reduced by 80%. She has completely changed her outlook on working out, she has learned to eat to fuel her body opposed to be afraid of it. We are still continuing on her journey.

In what areas do you find us — normal people– making mistakes when hitting the gym?

The biggest mistake I see is people giving up or not been consistent with their plan. Set a plan and stick to it, setting a schedule helps with this. If you plan to go to the gym 4 days a week at 6am then set it in your calendar and do it. Consistency will lead to results. People get despondent because they go to the gym for 1 week and then don’t the next. Commit to making a routine without fail and you will succeed.

Is there a major difference between women and men, in regards to establishing a workout routine. And if so, what are some of the best methods for women to follow?

Woman usually want to focus on certain muscles, like the booty and abs more than men do. But when it comes to training there is much less difference between woman and men’s training programs than you may think.  Contrary to what you may see on  Instagram. The biggest piece of advice I can give woman is don’t be afraid of heavy weights. Woman simply don’t have the hormones to get big muscles. Weigh training is essential to building that shapely feminine physique that we all seek. Circuit weight training doesn’t only shape your body but it also burns fat.

What is your best piece of fitness advice to every reader?

Never look back in regret, move on to the next thing. A setback is never a bad experience, just another one of life’s lessons. The more lessons you learn, the wiser you will become.

Why is it important for people to stay fit… and how can we overcome the procrastination and fear of working out on a regular basis?

Get a good coach, research coaches before you make your decision. It can be an online coach but choose somebody who has demonstrated experience in the field to make achieving your goal possible, safe and fun.
