Balancing the Books of Your Health

By  |

Sometimes we over complicate simple things in life, such as the recipe for staying healthy or getting fit.  In many ways, there is a recipe for this that has incredibly simple ingredients such as to drink more water, move more, eat better foods, and take time to relax.

Yet, we often end up feeling overwhelmed when it comes to our health and depend on something like Maestro Advantage to cover us in the event we fall ill.  Yet, rather than overcomplicate things or outsource the responsibility of your health to a medicare provider, this article uses the simple metaphor of a bank account to encourage you to make better day-to-day choices in order to live a healthier life, where you essentially balance the books in terms of your health.

Within a bank account there are two types of transactions; deposits and withdrawals.

The deposit nourish and invest in your positive bank balance whilst the withdrawals detract and deplete from the prosperity and vitality of your bank balance.  Ultimately, if there are too many withdrawals and not enough deposits, the account becomes overdrawn, and you end up in severe financial trouble that is a slippery slope where things spiral downhill.

Using this metaphor for nutrition, it’s clear that in the context of food there are deposits and withdrawal.  For instance, eating six doughnuts could be considered a withdrawal because it is taking away from your state of health and depleting your health bank account.  On the other hand, drinking aloe vera for example, would be considered a deposit because you are investing nutrients in your body that are going to replenish and revitalise your state of health, and therefore nourish your bank account with a deposit.

Now, just like a bank account, making the occasional withdrawal is fine, as nobody would suggest you should only ever invest money and never spend it – life doesn’t work that way, and nutrition doesn’t have to work this way either, there just needs to be a state of equilibrium where you are not overdrawn and in the “red”.

In the context of this metaphor, if you are overdrawn and keep withdrawing more from the bank account than you are putting in – that’s when you run into health problems such as chronic heart conditions, diabetes and adrenal fatigue.

Think about that word for a moment; dis-ease.  It represents that your body is in a state of dis-ease; because it is out of balance.  No matter what your current condition of health, the way to ensure a healthy life, is to keep this bank account in check and balance the books!

Equally important to what we put in our mouths is how often and how intensely we move our bodies.

Cardiovascular exercise is just as important as nutrition in terms of keeping a healthy heart and there are plenty of fun ways to get into the aerobic zone.

In summary, you want to make sure you are giving back to your bank account, for imagine what happens if you stop working and no money goes into your account for a while – yet you keep making withdrawals.  This is how most people treat their health hence the need to start balancing the book.s
