Planes, Trains And Automobiles: Looking After Yourself When You Have A “Go, Go, Go” Lifestyle

By  |

Let’s face it, everything is expensive now, whether you’re hitting the beach, or you’re going on business meetings, everything comes with a multitude of additional costs. If you are a budding creative, or you are working your way up the career ladder, either by running your own business, or you are a freelancer, the fact of the matter is you’ve got to be seen at the right events and you’ve got to hobnob with the appropriate people. And while this champagne lifestyle isn’t particularly achievable, especially when you’re on a meager salary, or you are constantly on the move, presenting this somewhat upper-class lifestyle can be very difficult. So, let’s get you out there!

What You Need With You At All Times

If you are constantly on the go, you need a semblance of stability. This can be whatever you want, but the best approach, if you are constantly in and out of Airbnb’s or sleeping on couches, or taking the Greyhound bus overnight, you need something to anchor you in these new and alien places. Your suitcase, believe it or not, is the one constant, it will be with you wherever you go, and so, it has to be your home away from home. This means getting a good quality suitcase that is durable, but can house so many of your homely pleasures, such as your tablet or your hair straighteners, will give you that feeling of comfort. Being nomadic or on the move constantly can be very stressful, and so, you need those little comforts to keep you in a positive frame of mind. You may want to get a little pillow that goes with you everywhere, especially if you spend a lot of time trying to sleep on public transport, which is almost impossible. Learning how to sleep on a plane is most definitely a fine art but it can be made easier if you have a few of those home comforts to see you on your way. Everybody nowadays has a tablet or a laptop on their person, which will keep you entertained for hours on end, so you can switch off from the stresses of the travelling world.

Managing Your Health

Being on the go constantly takes its toll. Whether you are trying to set up a blogging business, or you are seeing friends dotted all over the world, the most important thing to look after is your health. If you spend a lot of time on planes, that feeling of your back seizing up after one hour too many being sat down, and achy legs are, unfortunately, par for the course. Not only this, but the food we consume while we are on the go isn’t always the best quality. Eating in a restaurant is expensive, and so we make do with cheap sandwiches from a supermarket, or even the dreaded fast food outlets. While this is fine once in a while, it begins to take its toll. Managing your health while being out on the road constantly is very difficult, and this is why you need to have a healthier mindset to begin with. You may want to take a few supplements with you, to ensure you have, at the very least, a base level of health. These could be fish oil capsules, Vitamin D3, or a general multivitamin. But hitting the wall is an inevitability from time to time; this is why you need to take the opportunity to rest. It’s not always possible when you are on the go, and this is why you need to find a few hacks that benefit your nervous system. Breathing exercises are one of the simplest and most effective ways to calm down. All this travelling can take its toll on our nervous system, and we can feel more than our fair share of stress. The best defense is a good offence when it comes to stress. Taking the opportunity to recognize when we are stressed, as well as eating right, as and when is possible, will benefit us no end. But, it’s important to emphasize, rest and recuperation is essential.

Taking The Time To Recuperate

Being on the go, in and out of cars, buses, or on planes, is going to wear you down. Taking the time to recuperate means that you will have beneficial rest and will renew your enthusiasm. Whether you are a freelancer, or you can’t bear to be in one place for so long, a support network is essential so you don’t feel stressed. Rest and recuperation isn’t just about getting the adequate amount of sleep, it is about having the right people around you, either physically, or online, and, in so many ways, due to the internet, we don’t feel as alone anymore. And if you spend a lot of time away from home or maybe you live when your parents, the comforts of home are very good for you now and again, so you can feel rested. No matter how nomadic your sensibilities are we all need to stay in one place from time to time. Listen to your body, and your mind. You may feel like you are thriving when you are on the go constantly, but when you stop, that is when you realize how much stress you’ve been putting your body under. It’s at this point you need to refuel yourself, either emotionally, by having a support network around you, health-wise, by eating a good diet for once, or by resting, and having a lot of sleep.

It’s certainly a hallmark of the modern world that we have to be on the go constantly. But now, with the means of communication we have now, we end up travelling a lot. Staying in one place is not an option for many, and so, we have to learn how to thrive when we are on the go. As a result, this constant pushing forward is generally accepted as the new normal, but, if you are to live this lifestyle effectively, you had better look after yourself.
