Keep On Movin’: Looking Forward When Life Laughs At Your Plans

By  |

No one chooses to be here, we’re just lucky that we ARE here enjoying life and living every day that’s ahead of us. We don’t choose to be here, but we do get to choose how we live out every single day that we have. Well, we can make our plans, but sometimes life doesn’t care what we plan. It doesn’t care that we want to be doctors, when we also hate school. It doesn’t care when we want to travel the world and yet don’t have any cash. Life doesn’t care about your plans; so you have to make a conscious effort to get up every day and make life care about it!

What if you planned your life into little boxes, with all your expectations ready to go, and it just didn’t happen that way? What then? Because life happens. Divorce happens. Brain injuries happen. Accidents happen. Bad things happen to good people while the bad ones seem to live the high life. Life is only in your control for some of the way. Yet, there are things that you can do, things that you can concentrate on when life doesn’t quite go your way. Here’s some of the ways that you can carry on when life just doesn’t go as peachily as you would like:

It happens. And it’s not about you.

You can wish upon a star and blow eyelashes into the wind, but that doesn’t mean life is going to listen. When things don’t go as planned you can’t let yourself stew in self-pity. What does that achieve? Life happens without rhyme and reason and you have to carry on with it no matter what. There’s no way around it; you’re here, you’re going to keep moving forward because the world doesn’t stop just because you do.

Everyone is struggling – seriously.

Social media isn’t an indicator for how well someone else’s life is going, so stop comparing yours. Everyone – yes, everyone – is struggling. Their struggles may look different from yours, but that doesn’t mean that they’re not having hardships in their life. Stay humble about what you DO have, and focus on those positives.

Let fear go.

You had plans, and those plans are now blown out of the water. What do you do? Do you curl up and cry? Absolutely. Do you stay still and panic? Absolutely not. Stop being afraid of the things that you can’t control and start embracing the things that you can control. Life is for living, so go and live it! Don’t ask yourself WHY things went wrong, accept the change and move forward anyway.

Wiggle.

Shimmy left. Dance right. Bounce down. Fly up. There’s a roadblock ahead and you don’t need to be stuck behind it. Keep moving. No matter what, just take a different road. Roadblocks don’t necessarily stop you from success, but prevent you from making a mistake on the way to it. Success isn’t linear, so expect a little wiggle from time to time.
