Why You Need to Travel by Car at Least once in a Lifetime

By  |

Millennials are changing the way we live and because they love to travel, they are also changing how we travel. If older generations took the train or the plane to visit a foreign country, millennials are now traveling by car. If you don’t own a car, you can easily buy one, travel with it and then sell it for cash once you are back home. There are many advantages and disadvantages to this mean of transportation, but it’s an experience you should be living at least once in a lifetime and here is why.

You decide where you go

When you hear about traveling by car you probably think of freedom. If not, you should think again. It is true that a car might require a lot of attention from your part, as you need to drive it all the time, but you can decide when and where to go. You don’t have to wait for a train or hurry to catch a bus. You are free to explore each country, each city as long as you want.

You can save money

While the car needs fuel, which might be expensive, you can save a lot of money on food. Because you are with the car, you can go to the closest supermarket and buy what you want for a fraction of the price you would pay if you were to rely on restaurants for food.

You can also save money on accommodation, as many places in the world offer affordable camping places. If you have a big car, like a SUV, you can even sleep in the car.

Depending who you are traveling with, you can share the costs of the trip. For example, if you are traveling with two friends or more, you can share the expenses for the fuel and parking, making the entire trip more affordable for all of you.

You will feel safer

When you have to transit a place where there are many shady characters on the streets, you will be happy to be in the safety of a car, speeding away from potentially dangerous situations.

Less planning, more traveling

Before you leave home you have to spend a lot of time planning the trip, as booking trains, planes and hotels is going to take some time. And a decent amount of organizational skills. Once you’ve done this, you need to stick to the route and the schedule, as many places require you to pay in advance, at least some of the amount. By comparison, traveling by car is a lot easier, as you can go with the flow or skip planning completely and rely on house sharing.

Your experience is fuller

Cooking a barbeque with salad on the riverbanks, sleeping under the starry sky and driving for hours to find your next favorite place on earth. All these are going to enrich your travel experience. If you travel by train or plane you can’t live all these, so you have to try traveling by car at least once.
