Introducing Advanced Skincare and Minimally Invasive Procedures

Skincare is a number one priority for anyone who is trying to improve his or her appearance. Simply washing your face with a cleanser, using a toner and then going in with a moisturizer can make a great difference in your youth. However, we notice as aging progresses that we get spots, stress/worry lines, sun damage, sagging skin, cellulite etc. That’s when it is time to bring the experts. It is there where a physician will prescribe the anti-aging routine. When we start to build our home regimen through a physician’s care, it is very important to follow the steps to prevent wrinkles, reduce discoloration, or get rid of spots/sun damage along with other key advice to treat aging of the skin throughout the body. Caring for your skin and making it feel and look as beautiful and as healthy as it can be, is one of the best ways to be the most radiant and confident version of yourself. Sometimes, it requires the best and brightest tactics out there to fight the aging process. New York has a new star in town, a 6th generation Austinite whose work has been applauded nationally.

Skintology Cosmedical MedSpa has a new owner and medical director hailing from “The Lone Star State.” Dr. Jennifer Walden is board-certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has been consistently named in Castle Connolly’s and America’s Top Doctors®. Reigning as one of  “The Best Plastic Surgeons in America” on the cover of American Airlines Magazine, she continues to secure titles such as “Super Doctor”, “Best Plastic Surgery MD” and gaining coverage on major media outlets. Dr. Walden has appeared on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox News, E News, VH1 and many more outlets as an expert plastic surgeon weighing in on procedures and cosmetic surgery advancements. In addition to her two medical spas and her surgical practice in Austin with a year–long waiting list, Dr. Walden is not new to New York.  In fact, Dr. Walden did her fellowship training in cosmetic surgery at the renowned Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital in 2003, and practiced in NYC for eight years will world renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Sherrell Aston afterwards. Bringing her mastery back to her second home of New York City in all things aesthetic, Dr. Walden’s uses her expertise to introduce minimally invasive to non-invasive cosmetic procedures to patients who desire a certain appearance.

Dr. Walden, has your experience influenced the types of treatments you provide?

Being a board-certified plastic surgeon fellowship trained in aesthetic surgery, I am fortunate to be in a position to be able to rejuvenate most areas of the body through surgery if a patient is an appropriate candidate for a given procedure. But I can also see through the lens of someone who doesn’t need or want plastic surgery, and know what women (and men) would like to do to improve upon their appearance as we age without undergoing the knife. Some people just know they don’t want surgery.

In this day and age, there are many effective non-invasive procedures for patients that don’t necessarily require surgery yet or aren’t ready to take that step. That is why I am excited to be the new owner and medical director of Skintology MedSpa by Dr. Jennifer Walden on E. 57th Street in the heart of Midtown Manhattan. We offer everything from Botox, Dysport, soft tissue fillers (like Vollure, Volbella, Belotero, Restylane Lyft and Silk), Coolsculpting fat reduction, Vivace Radiofrequency Microneedling, Sculpsure laser fat reduction, Ultherapy non-invasive face and neck lift, NuEra Tight non-invasive skin tightening, Exilis, Z-Wave cellulite therapy, medical-grade facials, non-invasive vaginal rejuvenation, non-invasive treatment for ED for males, and more!  We are lucky to have a very skilled nurse injector, physician injector, and a team of expert aestheticians in the field for many years. There’s literally something and someone for everyone at our medical spa.

What are your favorite skin treatments? Why?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is one of my favorite “organic” treatments! It helps to improve fine lines, wrinkles, uneven texture, and tone of the skin. I get the procedure done a couple of times a year and it leaves my skin looking smooth and youthful! I also just love to get one of our customized facials, it leaves my skin glowing. Add PRP (platelet-rich plasma from your body’s own blood and growth factors) to it for a Vampire Facial and it will take you back in time!

What are the benefits of microneedling with radio frequency?

We offer the Vivace microneedling with a radiofrequency device. Vivace provides the best of both worlds by combining microneedling and radiofrequency energy to help stimulate the production of new collagen and tighten as the weeks go on. As stated before, microneedling helps with fine lines and wrinkles and to improve overall skin texture, while radiofrequency helps with skin laxity and skin tightening by the thermal energy that penetrates the deeper layers of the skin.

How many times should this be done to see results?

Typically, we recommend a series of three treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart. After that initial series is done, we recommend one treatment every 4-6 months. Our aestheticians love to perform this procedure because the patients are typically quite happy with the results.

What would be a follow-up procedure you would recommend with it and why?

We often recommend that you do one laser or light-based treatment per year depending on your needs. The heat from the laser will regenerate additional collagen and the light from the laser can resurface the skin for more even texture, to help get rid of superficial skin wrinkles and fine lines, and improve pigment changes.

What other procedures are you introducing to the practice?

We now have a wide variety of sexual wellness procedures. For women, we offer Votiva Vaginal Rejuvenation and the O-Shot for laxity, urinary incontinence, dryness, and irritation that menopause can bring. For men, we offer D-Wave and the P-Shot for erectile dysfunction and increased blood flow. We now also offer a new radiofrequency device for skin tightening and cellulite reduction called NuEra Tight, and it’s painless like a hot stone massage.  Other offerings include IV Hydration, Vampire Facelift, and Vampire Facial –the “Vampire” procedures are PRP or platelet-rich plasma-based procedures combined either with microneedling in the case of the facial or injected with Juvederm or another hyaluronic acid soft tissue filler in the case of the non-invasive facelift. I have had this done and swear by it!

Does your practice have particular regimens for its clientele?

We customize each patient’s regimen based on each procedure and the patient’s individual needs. We utilize “SpaScriptions” that are med spa-like prescriptions so that your regimen and follow-up schedule is clearly delineated and written down by your provider for you.

Why is it important to follow a regimen?

One of the most important aspects of a good skincare regimen is following up at home. We can recommend a variety of physician office-only skincare products designed for your needs to help give you the best results post-microneedling, injectables, and/or laser. Getting a full night’s sleep, adequate hydration, avoidance of sun exposure and smoking are also great for your skin to prevent premature aging.
