More Than Just for Looks

By  |

One way or another, you’ve probably heard of the word Botox and probably know, or speculate, that a few of your favorite celebrities have gotten Botox injections. We hear about it all the time, unfortunately, mostly painted under a bad light. We hear it everywhere, yet, not many people know what Botox actually is, or what benefits it has. To most people, it’s just another cosmetic surgery for the benefit of the healthy, to make them look younger.

But what if I were to tell you that a lot of the things you hear about it are not completely true. Sure, Botox injections can help a person look younger, it smooths out skin and wrinkles. But there is a lot more to it than most people know or speculate.

What is it though?

Botox is short for botulinum toxin. It was originally created in the mid-20th century in Belgium. While there are different cases for its early use, from fighting a disease, botulism, which was actually fatal, the most important thing about its history is its recent approval by the FDA in 2002.

With its decades of history, Botox injection have been developed, using more complex and powerful technology, to make it one of the safest cosmetic surgeries today.

The toxin is specially designed to lightly paralyze the muscles where it is injected, forcing them to work less and putting less strain on them, resulting in less trenches and wrinkles, which are formed as a result of overworking the muscles.

The surgery itself is minimally-invasive, meaning there is no need for big incisions to the skin. And since the procedure simply requires a Botox injection, you can imagine how small the incision must be. I mean, it’s just a tiny hole.

Is it safe?

As stated previously, in 2002, the FDA has approved Botox injections as a safe means of cosmetic surgery. With all the advancements in medicine and medical technology that have been made throughout the years, you can be assured that the procedure is completely safe. Only rare cases of side-effects have been reported, however these generally stem from unprofessionalism of the specialists or their lack of experience.

Normally, as with any surgery, there are side-effects, but they’re quite small and aren’t going to offer much discomfort, ranging from small cramps, redness, or a little itchiness. And even in the case of side-effects, there are ways of dealing with these minor discomforts as well. So, long story short, there’s not much to worry about when it comes to post-injection maintenance.

However, do make sure that you consult your doctor before signing up for Botox treatment. Every body and skin is different, and you never know what your body may or may not be susceptible to. While the procedure is incredibly safe, you should still make sure that Botox is safe for you.

But what about the price?

Another excellent question to which I will give a very satisfying answer. Contrary to popular belief, Botox injections are actually quite accessible nowadays. You’ve probably seen some rich celebrities who’ve received them, but this doesn’t mean that they’re going to cost you a fortune.

Nowadays, there are a myriad of clinics, which offer professional service, use the most advanced technology to date, and yield the greatest results. You can probably find several clinics which offer Botox injections in your city alone.

While a few years ago, Botox injections would have cost you a hefty amount of money, nowadays, they are relatively cheap, especially if you consider the amazing benefits they provide.

But you should consider this before signing up; as I said before, everyone’s skin is a little different. You may require more or fewer Botox injections than some of the people you know for it to be beneficial, so keep this in mind as you are setting up an appointment. While normally, it takes 2-4 injections for the treatment to yield results, this may vary.

Anything else I should know?

Of course. Believe it or not, recent studies have shown that Botox injections even have some health benefits. In fact, one of the first uses for Botox was for the eye muscles.

Injecting Botox into cramped joints have shown to increase limb activeness and reduce aches by 50%, reduce the pain people feel during migraines, and even, in some cases, help fight clinical depression.

What you should gather from this, is that Botox is not simply used to look younger or your favorite movie star. It is a wide-used medical tool, utilized in improving lives through different means. The range of benefits that Botox offers are incredible and many are thankful for the creation of Botox.

So, if you, or someone you know, has been considering receiving a Botox injection, do make sure to try it out and see the results for yourself. Because Botox is more than just for looks; it improves lives.
