Road-Trip Tips To Drive In Comfort

By  |

When we talk about road trips, I’m sure that most people imaging young travelers who aren’t that bothered about getting a bad night’s sleep every now and then. All those long hours behind the wheel can become very monotonous and boring, and many people assume that it’s only young students who choose to travel by car on long journeys just because it is so much cheaper. But, in actual fact, you don’t just need to be young to enjoy a road trip – if you plan well for the journey you could still enjoy a comfortable trip. Here are a few tips that can help you with that.

Take Pillows And Blankets

Firstly, you should pack quite a few pillows and blankets. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to take advantage of these while it’s your turn to drive, as they could limit your mobility when using the steering wheel and pedals. However, when you are in the back or the passenger seat, these blankets and pillows will be a big help as they can keep you warm and very comfy. They might even make it easier for you to have a short nap during the journey.

Plan A Few Stops

No one finds it fun to drive for four or more hours all in one go, so it’s a good idea to plan a few stops into your journey. This will give you all the chance to get out of the car and stretch your legs and get some fresh air. Doing so might help you feel a bit more awake and less sluggish. Not only that, though, but it’s a chance to stop off and see some sights as well as grab a bite to eat or fill up the car’s tank.

Ensure Every Driver Gets A Break

Generally speaking, if there are a few of you in the car, then you all need to take it in turns to be the driver. After all, it isn’t fair if just one of you is forced to spend the majority of the trip behind the wheel. Taking it in turns also ensures that no one ends up to tired and exhausted behind the wheel, which could prove to be very dangerous. Having a break gives you the chance to take a nap and freshen up so that you are all ready for taking the wheel again once it’s your next turn.

Pack Plenty Of Water And Snacks

Don’t forget to pack quite a few drinks and snacks with you in the car. You will then have plenty to nibble on if you ever feel hungry, and you won’t need to waste any time pulling over to buy anything. Make sure that you have plenty of plain water on board so that you aren’t stuck with just sugary or caffeinated drinks.

Don’t Forget Car Air Freshener

As you will be spending a lot of time in the car, and will also probably be eating a lot of different food in it, there’s a good chance that it could get quite smelly very quickly! So, you might want to get a few custom air fresheners to hang above the rear-view mirror. These are colorful additions that can keep the vehicle smelling fresh. If you want, why not design a bespoke air freshener for your once-in-a-lifetime road trip!

 Think Of Entertainment Options

Do you already have an idea of how you will entertain everyone during all this driving? If not, don’t worry just yet; I’ve got a few great options for you. Guessing games are always good fun when there are a few of you playing, so you might want to play one like I Spy. You might also want to download a few podcasts so that you can listen to them during the journey as well. It’s also a good idea to pack a couple of books or magazines for the times when you aren’t behind the wheel.

Make A Spotify Playlist

As well as all those entertainment options, it’s also worth creating a Spotify playlist. Just make sure that everyone who will be in their car gets a few of their favorite songs on it so that everyone can enjoy the music. This playlist will be perfect to listen to when you are cruising along the roads and taking in all the sights!

These are just a few of the tips that can help you enjoy a comfortable road trip. Start planning yours well in advance so that you can figure out anything else you might need!
