Make These Easy Lifestyle Changes To Be Healthier This Year

By  |

Most people struggle to stay healthy because they try and make drastic changes or look for shortcuts. If you want to maintain good health, then it’s all about altering your lifestyle in sustainable ways. So, keeping that in mind, here are a few lifestyle changes you can easily make, and they’ll help you be healthier this year:

Reduce your meat intake

I’m not trying to force everyone to turn vegan or vegetarian, but just reduce the amount of meat you eat. There’s an excellent book called How Not To Die, and it pretty much goes into detail about what’s inside the food we eat. Apparently, eating lots of meat products will lead to more health problems, including heart problems and cancer. So, if you start cutting down and being more flexible with your diet, it can reduce the chances of you getting some serious health problems. Two easy ways you can do this is by having one meal per day that doesn’t include meat, or if that’s too hard, then one or two days a week that are entirely meat-free.

Cut down on driving

The more you drive, the unhealthier you tend to be. I have a few issues with driving, one of which is that you’re always only one lousy driver away from having to file an injury claim for a traffic accident. Crashes happen far more frequently than you probably realize, which can put your health & wellbeing at risk. But, the main gripe I have is that it just makes you lazy. You end up in a seated position for the majority of your day, and you rarely get up and walk. So, cut down on driving, and start walking more. Or, cycle to work twice a week instead of driving every day. It’s a small change, but your health will benefit from being more active during the week.

Drink more water

It’s simple; our bodies need water to survive and operate at peak efficiency. It’s usually suggested you drink 2 liters of water per day, which can quickly be done if you get a water bottle. Those ones that keep your water cold for 12 hours are perfect as they encourage you to drink more because the water actually tastes nice and cold! By drinking more water, you basically keep your skin healthy, prevent fatigue, improve recovery after exercise, and just generally maintain excellent health.

Try and get at least 30 active minutes per day

Active minutes refer to when your body is actively burning calories, and your heart rate is up. You might think this is a hard thing to achieve as you don’t have the time to go to the gym for at least 30 minutes every day. But, so many things count towards your active minutes; walking, running up the stairs, cycling, doing yoga – anything that gets the blood flowing and the heart pumping! It’s proven that around 150 active minutes per week will help you stay fit and healthy, so aim for 30 a day!

Look, you don’t have to make massive changes to be healthy. Make these easy little lifestyle alterations, and you’ll have a healthier year in 2019.
