4 Ways To Repair Sun Damaged Skin

By  |

Now that the summer is on the way, it’s important that you start taking steps to protect your skin. Making sure that you’re protected from UV rays is the most important thing. Unfortunately, if you didn’t have great habits in the past and you didn’t take the necessary steps to protect yourself from the sun, you may have some damage to the skin. If the damage is very severe, there isn’t really that much you can do about it. But it takes a lot of years to get to that point and in most cases, you can actually reverse that damage if you treat your skin properly. These are some of the best ways to reverse sun damage to your skin.

Keep Protecting Skin

If you’ve already damaged your skin through sun exposure, it’s more important than ever that you are protecting it properly. Your skin needs time to heal itself properly without sustaining more damage from the sun. That’s why it’s a good idea to use a strong sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. The more protection you can give it, the better chance it has of healing.

Deal With Dark Spots

Excessive exposure to the sun can create dark spots on the skin that make it look blotchy, but there is something that you can do about it. There are skin lighteners that you can use to deal with those dark patches and maintain an even skin tone. If you want a natural alternative, you should consider crystal tomato. You’re probably wondering, what is crystal tomato because it sounds like something you’d find in a salad? But it’s actually a dietary supplement that you can use to lighten the darker areas of the skin and give you more sun protection.

Exfoliate Properly

Often, a lot of those darker and damaged areas of skin are on the surface, but the skin underneath is healthy still. If you can get rid of the upper layers and reveal the healthy skin underneath, your skin will look a lot better. The best way to do that is to exfoliate regularly. Using face scrubs, loofahs, and microdermabrasion kits are all great ways to exfoliate and brighten the skin up. You should also look for skin care products with alpha hydroxy acid (AHA), like moisturizers.

Hydrate

Exposure to the sun on a regular basis can cause the skin to dry out quite a lot, which will make it appear dull and increase the early signs of aging. That’s why it’s important that you hydrate the skin properly. Drinking water is one of the easiest ways to do that but you should also look for the right products as well. Using a good moisturizer and applying when the skin is still damp, just after showering will be a big help. You should also make sure to avoid products that have alcohol in them because they can dry the skin out further.

If none of these things are working for you, you could even consider getting laser treatment on your skin to repair some of the sun damage.
