5 Ways to Prioritize Your Holistic Health this Year

By  |

Have you been feeling tense lately? Do you feel as if your mind is cluttered, or that you’re filled with all sorts of negative energy? It may be that you haven’t been prioritizing your holistic health. Don’t stress out! Even if you live a super busy life, it’s actually much easier than you think to integrate holistic health practices into your jam-packed daily routine.

By making a few minimal adjustments to your lifestyle, you can easily improve your mental and spiritual well-being. Here are 5 changes you can make to prioritize your holistic health.

1.      Make Time for Yourself

One of the best ways to boost your holistic health is to make more time for yourself. You should try and make “Me Time” for at least one hour every day.

“Me Time” doesn’t mean you need to take an extra-long break at work. It doesn’t mean you need to go for a long stroll on the beach (although you should if you’ve got the time for that). You don’t need to deviate far from your routine to enjoy quiet, meditative time to yourself. “Me Time” can happen anytime you’re doing somewhere where you’re able to be left alone to your thoughts. That may include:

  • Walking to and from your car before and after work (perhaps you could park a little further from your workplace)
  • Cooking breakfast or dinner
  • Reading a book on your lunch break
  • Exercising after work
  • Driving around doing errands (play some good tunes in your vehicle and remind yourself that you’re having time alone with your thoughts)

If you’re able to make short bursts of time for yourself throughout the day, you’ll become much more mindful of your emotions and needs.

2.      Build a Healthier Body

Practicing healthy living is probably one of the most difficult things to accomplish on your holistic health journey, but anyone can do it.

If your goal is to eat healthier food, the first thing you need to do is stock your fridge with healthy items only. Salad will truly be your best friend, you just have to find which combinations of greens, vegetables, and salad dressing sets off your taste buds. You can still eat meat, just try and prioritize chicken and fish (so long as they’re not fried). And try and incorporate the Omega 3 vitamin into your meals.

If the gym doesn’t quite fit into your schedule (you’re not alone on that one), go online and research exercises that you can easily do from the comfort of your home. But if you don’t want to do cardio or strength training, you can still stay fit by going on daily walks getting a yoga mat and practicing some calisthenics.

3.      Power Off the Tech

Laptops and cell phones are important devices, but if you use them too much then they’ll negatively affect your energy or distract you from the things that really matter. Both of these devices give you ready access to social media, and many studies have proven that over-using social media causes anxiety, stress, and insecurity.

If you use your home laptop and cell phone for work, try your best to not answer any work emails or calls when you’re home for the evening. While it’s tempting to try and stay ahead at work by doing business after hours, you’ll deprive yourself of that “Me Time” that you need to relax and be ready for the next business day.

4.      Use Your Scents

If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or ill, you should try using essential oils to cleanse your negative energy and make your body and mind feel better. Essential oils are collected from natural herbs and you can rub them on your hands, shoulders, or neck to alleviate tension and headaches.

If you don’t want to bring your essential oils to the office, you can wear essential oil diffuser bracelets, which are coated with particular oils—and they look stylish.

On a similar note,  incense, marijuana, and even the smell of organic coffee can help you relieve stress and fill you with positive energy.

5.      Practice Mindfulness

Throughout the day, try and be aware of your thoughts and feelings. Being mindful about your mental and emotional state will help you reel in your stress and handle any curveballs that life throws your way. One of the best ways to practice mindfulness is to write in a journal or diary.

You can either write down your thoughts, some descriptions of the day’s events, or even fiction or poetry. Writing helps you make sense of all those thoughts and emotions that can clutter your head. Use a journal to expel them and keep a clear train of thought during the week.

Hope these 5 tips will prove useful to you! Here’s to a holistically healthy year ahead!
