A Perfectly Pleasant Niagara Falls Trip

By  |

Niagara Falls is on every traveler’s bucket list, but it isn’t always near the top. That’s because for avid travelers, Niagara Falls feels a bit tame. After all, it’s nestled on the border of America and Canada, two quite familiar, certainly civilized countries that lack much in terms of spontaneity and the unknown. Additionally, Niagara Falls has worked to establish itself as a safe and attraction-filled destination, appropriate for young couples and families — meaning it doesn’t seem very adventurous to travelers coming from places like Southeast Asia, Africa and South America.

Still, Niagara Falls is well worth a trip. Niagara Falls offers views of a true world wonder as well as a few other perfectly pleasant attractions and activities for any traveler. While Niagara Falls isn’t the rip-roaring, adrenaline-fueled destination that many travelers aim for, it does promise to be a simple, straightforward and fun trip. Here’s why.

Niagara Falls Promises Comfort and Ease

There are a few different ways Niagara Falls is different from the typical travel buff’s treacherous destination:

Deluxe hotels. There’s no need to squeeze into a twin bed in a room with 15 other travelers, and visitors can do much better than the hard floor of a tent. It’s easy to find hotels in the middle of Niagara Falls, Ontario with plush beds and luxurious amenities, and travelers don’t even have to blow their annual travel budget to do so. By visiting in the shoulder seasons, travelers can secure top accommodations at cut rates, which means they get the best for less.

Food and wine. The entire Niagara region is incredibly fertile, making it a wonderland for fresh food and, more famously, wine. Niagara Wine Country is home to more than 400 winemakers, some of them more than a century old. Niagara wines are earning all sorts of international awards, so travelers should be sure to book at least one winery tour during their trip.

Spa. Niagara Falls, of course, has a spa — but it isn’t just any spa. The Christienne Fallsview Spa offers some world-class treatments, but the can’t-miss feature is the infinity tub with a falls view. Here, travelers can completely destress from their travels and enjoy the relaxing view and sounds of the thundering Niagara waters.

Tourist transport. Most frequent travelers are accustomed to contending with public transit in some form, but Niagara Falls makes transportation easy. The city does have a bus system for residents, but for tourists, it offers WEGO, a transit system that connects all accommodations with most attractions. WEGO tickets are purchased by the day, meaning the more a Niagara visitor uses the bus, the better the deal is.

There Are Some Wild Rides in Niagara

This isn’t to say that Niagara offers nothing for adrenaline junkies. Travelers who crave a bit of thrill can slake their thirst with the following high-excitement attractions:

River cruise. Maid of the Mist and Hornblower Niagara offer boat tours that take visitors up to the base of the crashing waterfalls. The sound and feelings are intense — not to mention the drenching moisture in the air.

Helicopter tours. There are several ways to get birds-eye views of Niagara Falls, including Skylon Tower and the Niagara Skywheel. However, for more a more exhilarating experience, travelers should book a helicopter tour. Helicopters will take guests around the entire Niagara area for a once-in-a-lifetime view.

Aero Car. Beyond the falls, the Niagara River churns itself into class-six whitewater rapids, and it has carved out a massive natural whirlpool, as well. Visitors can safely see the rapids and whirlpool from the White Water Walk — or they can journey over top of it on the Aero Car, which traverses from the Canadian side to the American side via cables.

Some travelers like to compete with one another, sharing stories of the roughest places they’ve lived, the most dangerous areas they’ve visited. While it certainly can be eye-opening and horizon-broadening to venture into the unknown, it is also well worth one’s time as a traveler to visit places that are comfortable, easy and safe — which Niagara Falls inarguably is. The hotels in Niagara Falls, Canada are undeniably deluxe, not necessarily in price but certainly in look and feel. The attractions and activities around the falls are exciting and often one-of-a-kind, but they certainly aren’t life-threatening. By spending time in a place like Niagara Falls, travelers can relax and recuperate before journeying once again into more rough-and-tumble parts of the world.
