1. Italian Lake District

Italian Lake District is one of the top places to visit in Italy. This district is located around Northern Italy and has been popular for tourism for about a hundred years.

The southern portion of this district lakes are pretty flat, but the northern parts of the lakes are rugged and full of mountains. The scenery is something not found in many places around the world.

Lake Garda is the largest lake in this district, and the scenery is gorgeous. After that one, you should visit Lake Como, which is just as beautiful, with mountainous forests right near the water.

Another lake with resorts near it is Lake Maggiore. This is a beautiful place to stay and is family-friendly as well.

2. Rome

The capital of Italy is definitely one of the places to you have to add to your itinerary.

This city has so much culture and history packed into it that it would be a shame if you didn’t make a pitstop here. While you’re there, make sure you visit the Colosseum that was built during the Roman Empire.

3. Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi Coast is a beautiful cliff to hike along if you’re up for it. This coast is in the southwestern area of Italy, along the south side of the Sorrento Peninsula.

Most people say that it was worth it to see the beautiful 34 miles of coastline. There are 13 different colorful little towns along the coast, and each one has its own story.

The two cities that are more popular on this coast are Positano and Almalfi. You will most likely be able to find some lodging and great food to eat.

If you want to view some beautiful artwork, Ravello is the place for you. This city also has some beautiful gardens as well.

4. Cinque Terre

Cinque Terre, meaning “Five Lands” is back up in northern Italy near the Ligurian Coast. There are about five different colored seaside towns, like the Amalfi Coast. The five cities you could visit here are:

• Riomaggiore
• Manarola
• Vernazza
• Monterosso
• Corniglia

While there aren’t as many beaches here as the Almalfi Coast, there are still plenty of activities to occupy your time. You could go on a hike or even take a boat tour to get a different perspective of the landscape.

The landscape is made up of steep cliffs overlooking the water. There are also hundred-year-old wine terraces.

5. Sicily

Sicily is technically not connected to Italy; it is about 2 miles from mainland Italy. While it’s not connected, it is a large island in the Mediterranean Sea. It is still an autonomous region of Italy, and there are also some small isles surrounding it.

Sicily is also old and has a lot of history and art in it. If you want to enrich yourself in the culture, this is the place to do it.

One of the most important things to see on this island is Mount Etna, the tallest active volcano in Europe is also on this island.

6. Lake Como

Lake Como is a beautiful place for a beach vacation. If you don’t care so much about sightseeing and doing touristy things, Lake Como is the perfect place to kick your feet up and not worry about a thing.

There are all kinds of villas and hotels that are right on the shoreline for you to book. You will come back from your vacation looking incredibly tan and also feeling relaxed.

You can tell all your coworkers about how you watched the sailboats coast on the water and about how you took a speedboat to see the hills from the water.

7. Venice

Venice is also another popular destination in Italy. It is one of the most unique ones though because the city was built on a lagoon that is surrounded by the Adriatic Sea.

This city is in the northeastern portion of Italy; it is actually an archipelago comprised of 118 islands. These islands are all connected by beautiful bridges and canals.

The Grand Canal is one of the most well-known canals in the city. This canal actually runs right in the middle and divides the city into two different sections.

You can take a gondola out on the canal for a romantic boat ride to see all of Venice.

Some other things to see while you’re there are:

• Saint Mark’s Square and Basilica
• Rialto Bridge
• Doge’s Palace

Because of how popular it is, Venice is normally pretty crowded, so you should try and go during an offseason.

8. Milan

Unfortunately, Milan was affected by bombing during World War II and was almost destroyed. However, since then it has been rebuilt and is now one of the wealthiest cities in Europe.

Milan is a fashion hub with all kinds of designer shops for those who are into fashion.

Milan is also home to The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci. You can also visit the Castello Sforzesco which is the largest Gothic cathedral in the world. If you are into architecture, make sure you add this to your list of places to see.

9. Tuscany

The last one on our list is one of the most famous regions in Italy.

Tuscany has olive groves, vineyards, cypress trees, all on jaw-dropping hills which create a beautiful landscape.

If you are a wine connoisseur, Tuscany will be one of your favorite places on your trip.

Elba, one of the largest of the islands is also home to the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
