3 Top Tips For Motivating Yourself

By  |

We all get the blues from time-to-time. And then sometimes our get-up-and-go just gets up and goes. When lethargy hits, it can knock you down so hard that you can’t back up. At times like this, it can be challenging to motivate yourself. You may have all of the good intentions in the world, but when procrastination takes over, you might find yourself distracted and unable to push yourself to do all of the things that you need to do in life.

Coasting does nobody any good. When you can’t find your way to getting on and doing things, then you are not doing yourself any favors. Finding the motivation to get back on with life is vital. Putting off finding motivation until another day will only lead to you having more of a build-up of things that you have not yet got around to doing. This will be overwhelming, and it will only serve to make you even more demotivated.

Here are some tips for finding your drive again and becoming more productive and motivated overall.

Start The Day Well

The way that you start your day will determine the way that it goes after that. If you can do something very early on in the day that will make you happy, or relax you, then make that your morning ritual. Meditate, do yoga, or put your favorite song on and sing in the shower.

Getting up and going out can be really helpful. If you have time in the morning, go for a run or walk a dog. You may even want to go and meet some friends and have breakfast downtown. Exercising or socializing will help to get your positivity up as you will naturally start to create feel-good hormones through doing these things. You will need to make them a habit, however, after a while, you will naturally look forward to doing these things first thing in the day.

Create A To-Do List

Having a list of priorities will help prevent you from feeling overwhelmed at the start of each day. If you sit down and make a thorough list of the things that need doing, tackling the worst or most urgent jobs first, then you will soon see the list going down as you cross items off.

Don’t worry if you don’t get everything on your list ticked off, you can always carry items over to another day. Often, when we stress about having too much to do in a short space of time, we can end up doing nothing instead because we are racked with worry.

Avoid Procrastinating

If you know that you will distract yourself with a specific type of activity, find ways of making doing that impossible. If you get distracted by your smartphone and feel the urge to check social media, turn your phone off and put it in another room if you can. Removing the temptation can help you regain some of your lost focus.
