How Technology Is Changing the Travel Experience

By  |

The travel industry has gone through a period of drastic change in the last few years. From the appearance of peer-to-peer services, the widespread use of mobile devices and the increasing effects of the travel industry being seen within contemporary industries such as iGaming, the experience and evolution of traveling the world is now very different from what it was just a few decades ago.
It appears that even more big changes are on the horizon. The following are some of the major influencers that could affect travel trends and how you see the world in the near future.

Robot Hotels

The use of cutting-edge technology is set to make hotels very different places. While some hotels already use smart technology to let guests tailor the room to their needs, this is likely to be just the start of the revolution.
An example of what we can expect in the future comes from the Alibaba hotel that was opened in Hangzhou, China in 2019. It has been described as a robot hotel, as visitors use a mobile app to make the booking and are then met by automated receptionists that use AI. There is no need for a room key card either, as facial recognition technology is used to let guests in.
The issue of hotel jobs being automated and staff being replaced by robots has already led to protests by workers in Las Vegas. It seems certain that the move towards robot hotels will continue to gather pace, though.
Hotel and Travel Comparison Sites
Booking flights or hotel rooms is now an incredibly easy experience. In part, this is due to the presence of massive comparison sites such as Booking.com and Expedia. Known as aggregators or OTAs (online travel agencies), they bring together numerous options for travelers to choose from.
The huge success of this method has seen it spreading into other industries, where convenience and saving money are vital. For example, in the insurance industry, it is possible to look at a range of offers on different types of cover such as life or car insurance.
Comparison Sites and Online Casino Gaming
Comparison sites can also be seen in the gaming and online casino business. Canada’s Casinos is an example of a site that reviews online casinos, where visitors can choose from the biggest names in the industry, such as LeoVegas and Casumo, while weighing up the bonus offers, rating, and other relevant gaming information.
This is an example of how travel sector trends can affect and merge with other industries. It will be interesting to see what other developments make their way into iGaming and online casinos and sites from other niches. With new technology now being introduced at an increasing rate, we could see travel-gaming innovations becoming more common and accessible than ever before.
Cryptocurrencies
On the face of it, the growing popularity of cryptocurrencies hasn’t had a particularly big effect on the travel industry. Yet, this is something that we can expect to see become ever more important in the future.
It is possible to pay with Bitcoin on a number of travel sites, and some hotels have already said that they will accept payments in Bitcoin. The five-star Dolder Grand in Switzerland was one of the first to do this. As with the previous point, digital payments are also possible in other industries, with online slots sites and poker sites among them.
However, bigger changes will be experienced if any of the decentralized travel projects underway really take off. These offer peer-to-peer payments, and their own tokens that can be used in a bespoke travel ecosystem. Some examples of these projects include TraveleVee, MeetnGreetMe, and EasyGuide.
The truth is that few people could have predicted these major changes in advance. Therefore, it seems certain that the future will also contain some big surprises for travelers too.
