5 Tips for Making Thanksgiving Get-Togethers More Fun

It’s not long before we’ll all be enjoying Thanksgiving, and all the riches and fun that it provides. Or at least, that’s the idea. If you’re going to make your get-togethers more fun, then you can’t just hope that it happens — you need to make it happen. This is true of all get-togethers, but especially so when you’re spending time with people you haven’t seen in a while, or just generally feel less comfortable with (this can be true of a lot of families).

Well-Stocked Supplies

Is there anything worse than having loads of people in one place, and there just not being enough supplies? If there is, we don’t know what it is. If you’re on Thanksgiving hosting duties this year, make sure you’ve got everything you need so that people can relax and have fun without nervously looking at the ever depleting last bag of chips. It’s kind of hard not to have a great time if you’re all together, warm, and you have enough food and drinks to last all through the night and beyond.

Extra Rooms 

When people are at your home for Thanksgiving, you will hope that they will be fully focused on the here and now, and on having fun. Alas, this isn’t always possible. If they’re forever thinking about how they’re going to get home, then they can’t commit to the present. Their minds will be elsewhere. So why not get rid of this issue entirely by preparing extra spaces for sleeping? People can let loose and have a good time when they know they’ve got a bed nearby. If people are happy to sleep on the couch, you can probably host everyone!

Fun Activities

There are ups and downs to a Thanksgiving event. Everyone builds up for dinner, but after, they might feel pretty tired. It’s here when the host needs to provide some fun after people have had a little time to rest. You can bring the fun by hosting a Disney movie trivia quiz, or setting up a game of charades, or even doing things like karaoke, if you have the infrastructure to do so. So long as it’s an activity that everyone can enjoy, then you’ll find the night goes on with people happy and having fun. 

Create the Mood

One problem that some Thanksgiving get-togethers possess is that it takes too long for the guests to feel comfortable. They’ve just arrived in someone else’s home, and it can take a while for people to warm up. This is truer for extended families, such as uncles and aunties than for closer relatives, but still. So it’s up to you to create a mood that’ll allow everyone to fully sink into the fun of the evening. This can involve getting the lighting right, offering drinks, playing music, and so on, and, of course, being relaxed yourself. People will quickly warm up!
