Health Problems You Shouldn’t Treat Yourself

By  |

When your health is troubling you, perhaps you have a niggling pain somewhere, or something looks different on your body. It can be easy to ignore some issues because they might not be f bothering you too much or you might be worried that you’ll sound like a hypochondriac if you go to the doctor with something menial. There may also be things that you think you could treat at home with rest, chicken soup and a few paracetamols but it’s not always the case so if you have any of the below problems, don’t try and treat them yourself, go and see a doctor:

A High Fever

If you have a fever that reaches 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, you may have a severe infection like Pneumonia which can present itself with a fever as well as lung issues, cough and the chills. It could be something else, and your body is trying to rid itself of the infection by raising your temperature. Don’t try and fix this yourself; it’s best to get yourself checked out straight away.

Your Ears Are Blocked

If you have an earache, ringing in the ears or dizziness, then this could be a sign that your ears are blocked. If you try and unblock them yourself, you may cause more damage by pushing the blockage further. Earwax protects your ear by cleansing the ear canal and preventing debris from entering the ear, but it can harden and cause a blockage in the ear, if this is the case then go and see a doctor as soon as possible before it gets any worse.

Sudden Changes

If anything happens to you suddenly like feeling highly emotional out of nowhere or you suddenly have slurred speech or trouble seeing, or your limbs feel strange all of a sudden, then you should see a doctor as these can be signs of a stroke. Sudden shortness of breath is another vital sign to look for, or tightness or pressure in your chest may indicate a heart attack or other cardiac issues. Don’t wait for these symptoms to pass or try and treat them yourself, get down to the doctor and get it seen to.

Common Colds That Won’t Shift

It’s normal for a regular cold to last about a week, but if you have symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, a drippy or stuffy nose and you have these for over seven days then go and see your doctor as it’s likely to be a bacterial infection that requires antibiotics or other treatment and will not go away on its own.

Chest pain

Chest pain is a common indicator of cardiac problems, so it’s not a symptom to ignore. If you experience sudden chest pain, then it’s probably unsafe to drive yourself or even have someone else drive you to the hospital as you may need faster medical assistance, so call for an ambulance as soon as possible.

Losing Weight Without Trying

While to many people, this may sound like a dream, but if you are suddenly losing weight without trying to or without any significant changes to your food habits or workout routine, then you need to see a doctor. It could be an early symptom of various cancers.
