Four Signs It’s More Than A Bad Mood Day

By  |

Almost everyone out there has down days. We all have those moments of blah, where we want to call in for a Duvet Day and binge-watch One Tree Hill on Netflix (yes, again). It’s natural to swing between happiness and sadness, and it’s natural to feel excitement sometimes and apathy at other times.

The problems arise where you don’t know whether those swings are too erratic, too frequent. If those moods become too “up” and then too “down,” there could be more going on inside you than just a bad mood day where you want to watch the outcome of many love triangles One Tree Hill has to offer. However, before you check into the nearest bipolar disorder treatment center, perhaps it’s worth exploring inside a little and working out whether your feelings can be managed without external help. Mood swings are natural and make you human, so let’s look at four signs you can tell that it’s so much more than just a “bad mood day.”

  • You Never Want To See Your Friends

We always turn to those we love as a sounding board, a shoulder to cry on, or someone to vent to when we are feeling sad. Cutting your friends out in those moments? That’s not a good sign. That withdrawal inside yourself? It’s lonely, and you’re isolating yourself from those who really could help you out.

  • You’ve Stopped Eating Properly

If you are a lover of comfort food (and we’re not talking about the occasional night in with Ben & Jerry) and you find that you’re suddenly not eating much of anything, perhaps it’s not a bad thing. However, if you’ve noticed that your eating habits have changed so completely that your physical and mental health is affected? Well, that’s a problem, and once you see it, you can decide whether it’s a problem that can be fixed or not.

  • The Exhaustion Doesn’t Go Away

Tiredness and exhaustion are two very different things. There are differences between tired because of a busy week and the emotional exhaustion that you feel even when you’ve slept for eight hours unbroken. You wake up, and you’re exhausted, and you don’t want to do anything. This is where it tips over from a Duvet Day to a day you need professional help to function.

  • Bye, Bye, Libido

For a lot of people, sex is so much more than something fun to do in lieu of Netflix. It’s a way to connect emotionally and physically to the person that you love the most. When that libido, those feelings of want and need, disappear? Well, it’s time to explore that. Everyone has a lull in their sex life; it peaks and troughs according to exhaustion and being busy. When you go from having a completely active sex life to nothingness, it’s worth paying attention to. Those low moods can rob you of the chance to feel pleasure, and that needs some help.

Sometimes, you need a little help. And that’s okay.
