By  |

From traditional to extravagant, there are Christmas Decorations for every style, but how do you make them stand out and really capture your refined taste? It’s really about taking classic decor ideas and putting a spin on them to take them to the next level. Whether you’ve been planning for months or need to make your home look festively fabulous in a pinch, these ideas will help you make your house shine

Deck out your tree

What better place to start than the focal point of your Christmas decor, the tree. So, how you DIY your own designer Christmas tree? Start by fluffing it up. By that we mean pulling apart the branches, bending them for the best angles, and trimming any awkward overextending branches or ones that are hanging down too low.

Next, select a tree skirt that has a little more personality than the classic red or white variety. You could choose one with a faux fur trim, some festive glitter, or even a fun print that ties in with the rest of your decor.

To take your ornamentation to the next level, consider adding a few extra touches, such as:

  • Ribbons
  • Pinecones
  • Berry branches
  • Beads
  • Multiple types of lighting

The key to creating a tree that’s truly exceptional is selecting a color palette (and sticking to it), adding texture, and running with an overarching theme. And don’t forget to select to find a tree topper that shines better than the rest.

Create eye-catching centerpieces

During the holiday season you’ll likely be entertaining frequently, so don’t neglect your table settings, especially on Christmas Day. To create a centerpiece that really goes above and beyond guests’ expectations, start with the foundation and then build it up. Fruit platters, florals, oversized candles, and even decorative pieces like Christmas cottages or an animated skating rink makes a perfect starting point.

For a more lively feel, you could also set up a poinsettia delivery for Christmas. Holiday plants or flowers are a great way to put the final touch on your seasonal centerpiece that you want to make extra special for the main event. Just make sure you leave enough room on your table for all the other place settings and serving dishes

Next, add some texture will bine branches, holly, or twine. To really draw the attention to your centerpiece, add some lighting– whether that be tealight candles or a set of string lights. Keep in mind that you’ll want your centerpiece to compliment your table runner and place settings so the colors you use should be complementary.

Weave the theme throughout your home

While you don’t want to cover every inch of your home, if you really want to take it to the next level, you should weave the theme throughout your whole house, not just one room. But how do you do that while keeping it classy? That’s where an eye for detail comes into play. Let’s take it room by room:

  • Living room: The living room will be the focal point of your holiday festivities so it needs extra love and care. Start by swapping out your throw pillows and blankets for something more festive. There are plenty of options to choose from, from subtle plaid brings and seasonal colors to pillows with Christmas-y embellishments and phrases. And, if you haven’t already done so, add some Christmas decor to your fireplace by place some garland, candles, and a knick-knack or too on the mantle.
  • Kitchen: Add a festive touch with holiday-themed decorative towels, maybe a faux snow window treatment, and a centerpiece for your kitchen island. Trust us, baking and serving snacks in a well-decorated kitchen will just be that much more fun.
  • Bathroom: Don’t leave out the bathroom, particularly the one that guests use. The counter-space behind the toilet makes a great spot for a nice seasonally scented candle. Add some festive soap or lotion like cranberry or pepperpine and maybe wrap some garland around the towel holder and you’ll have yourself a fully festive bathroom.
  • Bedrooms: If you have kids, allow them to add a mini Christmas tree to their bedrooms. This way they can have fun with decorating the tree just how they want. Usually, it’s best to stick to artificial trees for the little ones so it’s easier to take care of.
