The weather this time of the year is enough to keep the most adventurous person indoors. With grey skies, and frosty mornings, the last thing you’ll want to do is to spend time out in nature. That being said, there are so many pros to spending time outside, particularly in the winter months. The importance of getting sufficient vitamin D during the winter cannot be underestimated. With many people in America not receiving adequate levels, even in the summer months. If ever there was an excuse to go on holiday during winter, looking after you health would be one.

Whether you are a mother of several children, or are retired with plenty of spare time on your hands, cost is often then main reasons people are not able to go on holiday as often as they would like. There are, however, ways that you can plan for and go on that winter holiday you’ve been dreaming about. You may have to make some small sacrifices, and be thrifty about your savings plan, but it will be worth it when you are soaking up the sun on a beach. 

First of all, you will need to start planning way before the winter season hits. With some foresight you can better prepare and look forward to a nice winter break. When it is summer, it is very easy to forget just how miserable the winter can be. Summer holiday plans take over, and you have little to no budget for additional vacations. Instead, consider taking a smaller vacation in the summer to ensure that there is some money left over for the winter. 

Budget and savings plan

Create a budget and savings plan that is both realistic and goal-oriented. Of course, with so many other costs of living, it can be a little difficult to add an additional savings pots for a winter break, however you don’t need to set aside a great deal each month. It may take you a little longer to save for a winter break, but it will be worth it in the long-run. 

Look at additional ways to increase your income

If you just can’t see your budget stretching to allow you to go on an extra break, consider additional ways that you can increase your income. Some ways that you can make some extra money on the side include, selling and promoting home-made goods on sites such as Etsy or Depop, getting involved with an affiliate marketing program, or even renting a spare bedroom, or parking space for a certain time. Try a mini-break

If you can’t cover the cost of a long holiday. Consider a mini-break somewhere warmer. You don’t have to go on a long break in order to feel refreshed. Sometimes it just take a little trip and a couple of days in the sun to make you feel like you again.
