Stress VS Our Health

By  |

The most common consequences of stress that people initially think of are feeling nauseous and anxious; feeling fidgety and on edge; loss of appetite or increased appetite (stress eating); over-thinking; inability to fall asleep and stay asleep; and, just straight up balling our eyes out. Naturally, these are not experiences that anyone would want to go through and so it is encouraged that you take preventative methods in order to avoid stress. For your health, in all its forms: physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, it is important to make an effort to relax and calm yourself in times of stress. Severe stress specifically can be detrimental to our overall health. In times where stress is at an all time high in both our work lives and our home lives, we need to be able to take a step back and breathe.

Alongside the aforementioned symptoms of stress, there are other reasons we should put in the time to take care of ourselves. Not only can stress take a toll on our own bodies, it can also prove to be a disadvantage to those around us. Stressing out on our own is bad enough, especially when it makes us feel like a boat lost out at sea, in a thunderstorm. But, when we are getting stressed out amongst other people, it can cause stress to them for various reasons. Either they get stressed over the same thing because they know it’s stressing you out, or they get stressed because they don’t know how to help you. Either way, it’s neither ideal, nor good for anyone’s health.

Another way stress can affect our well being is through having a negative impact on our hearing. At the very least, an overproduction of adrenaline during an episode of stress can reduce the blood flow to our ears, causing temporary hearing loss. In a worst case scenario, chronic stress, or hypertension, can lead to a more serious sense of loss of hearing. On top of this, it can be incredibly painful and lead to other health issues like tinnitus. Humans are curious by nature and so are keen to learn more about how to cope with issues such as stress, especially when it can be so damaging to our health.

So, whether stress is causing you headaches, upsetting your stomach or has got to the stage where it is affecting your hearing, it is vital that you make the effort to try and cope with whatever stress is being thrown your way. There are plenty of great techniques you can do in order to de-stress; many of which can be found here. So, next time you sense the stress monster attempting to climb onto your back, make sure to implement some techniques that will give you the equipment to fight it off and take care of yourself.
