10 Reasons Why You Need More Sports in Your Life

By  |

Ah, sports.

Who feels like we should have more sports in our lives? If you’re the kind of person who needs a lot of motivation before hitting the gym, don’t worry! Sports can be a good thing too. Next time you struggle to motivate yourself and stick to your fitness plans, you should remind yourself of all the good reasons to embrace sports and exercise. Indeed, making sports events synonymous with fitness routines can lead to creating an unwelcoming image of this glorious hobby. For anybody who doesn’t feel confident enough to go to the gym or who is looking for an excuse to skip sports once and for all, here are the top 10 reasons to love games, workouts, and the fitness industry.

Remember, the first mistake when it comes to sports is to believe you can’t do it. It’s typically what happens when you set unrealistic fitness goals for yourself. But instead of thinking of sports as an enemy you need to defeat, it’s time to change your perception and see all the good things it can do for you.

#1. Athleticwear is fashionable

Athleticwear isn’t only comfortable; it can be a stylish everyday outfit. If there is one thing you should be grateful for is that sports give us some of the best shoe trends in fashion history! Did you know that Converse sneakers were first developed for basketball players? Nowadays, you’d be hard-pressed to find anybody who doesn’t own a pair of the iconic canvas trainers. Sneakers have also made a noticeable appearance in our street style. A great pair of kicks can get you anywhere, and athletic shoes are now the perfect stylish clash to a formal outfit. You can find some of the most stylish celebrities wear designer sneakers with their suits, or even with a romantic prairie dress. Sports-inspired clothes are hugely fashionable.

#2. You can use it as a charity tool

There are so many good causes in the world that it’s hard to know how to help those in need best. Unless you’re a wealthy philanthropist, it’s unlikely you can make a huge contribution to your favorite charity. However, you can use sports as a tool to boost donations and increase public awareness about causes that are meaningful to you. There are plenty of sporting events organized in the world to support charity organizations. You don’t need to be rich to make a difference anymore. You can participate in any of those events and give in sweat and physical efforts what you can’t give in dollars. Running for cancer, or swimming to support homelessness funding, with a variety of activities, anybody can use sports to make memorable donations.

#3. It’s highly entertaining

Watching sport is a lot more than brainless entertainment. Sport games and events bring people together through an emotional experience. We cheer and cry with our favorite athletes. We hold our breaths when a gymnast makes a risky move. We are amazed by the body control that professionals have acquired. Watching is, in many ways, similar to an artistic experience that moves and transforms our perception of the world for a moment.

Whether you sit on the spectators’ benches or you’re on your sofa, the experience is a safe journey through a world of moral standards. We applaud athletes who help each other, and, more often than not, we find ourselves thinking that those who don’t win deserve our respects just as much as those who get the medal. The lesson is not to give up and to enjoy the journey, and that’s the lesson you learn from watching your favorite sport on TV.

#4. Enthusiastic sports lovers can make money

There’s another lesson for sports enthusiasts, and it’s that there’s a lot of money in your hobby. You may not compete against your favorite athletes, but you can compete for bets on their performance. If you follow games closely, you probably already have a few predictions in mind about who might win. You can always find more and informed predictions online if you’re not sure about your findings. While sports betting can be a risky hobby if you don’t know what you’re doing, knowledgeable gamblers can make a lot of money with a handful of bets. As a rule of thumb, it’s best to start with small bets until you can safely boost your confidence and get a feel for the games.

#5. It keeps you sane

We all have days where the world feels too overwhelming. Stress, anxiety, and depression have, unfortunately, become a natural part of our lives. But while you can’t replace the support of a professional therapist or counselor, it’s good to know that sports can also help to boost your mood. Indeed, exercising can have positive effects on your mental health. Individuals who struggle with depression have noticed significant improvements in their mood. Did you know that running for 15 minutes a day can reduce the risk of depression by over 25%? This begs the question of why so many of us continue to rely on antidepressant medication when working out can treat depression disorders just as effectively and without any harmful side effects.

#6. It’s rejuvenating

What is the secret to eternal youth? If you’re thinking Botox or dermal fillers, you’re wrong. There is a simple trick that takes years off your face without any needle, and that is regular exercise. Indeed, working out regularly can improve your health to the point where you don’t just feel more active, you also look significantly younger

When you exercise, your body feels more agile and alert, which translates into a youthful walk and attitude. Additionally, people who stick to a regular training plan are more likely to keep their face smooth and firm for longer. If you want to get rid of those pesky wrinkles and lines around your eyes, there’s nothing quite as effective as hitting the treadmill to slow down signs of aging.

#7. Growing old without feeling it

Aside from keeping your appearance youthful and slender, sports also improve natural bodily functions. The human body is not made for rest. An active lifestyle is precisely what the doctor’s prescribed! Because our ancestors were hunter-gatherers, physical activity was part of their routine. As such, our metabolism has evolved to make exercise an essential element of our health.

Being lazy is not just bad for your weight management. It’s unhealthy. Lack of exercise can slow down your metabolism, increase cancer risks, and affect your cognitive abilities. Indeed, when you exercise, your body can maintain the flow of oxygen and blood to all your organs, and also release harmful toxins. As a result, some of the most common health complaints, such as digestive troubles or bad skin, can easily be resolved through regular exercise.

#8. It boosts your self-esteem

Do you sometimes look into the mirror and don’t recognize the person who’s looking back at you? Our inner self-critic can be a pain! It’s the little voice that tells you that you’re not good enough. Shutting down your self-critic is not easy. But sports can have a surprisingly positive influence on the little voice in your mind. Indeed, exercising puts you in a position of control where you can achieve your goals. You may not get your dream body overnight, but the more you work out, the more you improve your appearance. When your body begins to change, you feel more confident about yourself. You can look back at your reflection in the mirror with the knowledge that you’ve come all this way by yourself, and there’s so much more potential in you. Exercising is a natural self-esteem boost!

#9. It’s a social event

It’s never easy to make new friends. When you are forced to change cities for any reason, you can find it hard to build a social circle. But joining a sports club or even reaching out to your local amateur sports team can help you to meet people. As silly as it sounds, people who train together tend to build a close bond. You don’t need to be a professional athlete to use exercise as an ice-breaker.

If you’re the newest member at the gym, you could simply ask one of the trainers to show you around and teach you how to use the equipment. Alternatively, you could join one of the gym classes and make friends with the other participants.

#10. It’s inexpensive

Not every hobby is affordable. But working out has the advantage of being accessible even if you’ve got a limited budget. You only need a pair of shoes to start running outdoors. If running isn’t your thing, you can just as well follow a yoga tutorial on Youtube in the comfort of your home. In other words, while there is a lot of expensive equipment around, you don’t have to break the bank to join in the fun.

Sports should never be something you fear. There is a lot of enjoyment in working out or even watching games. Learning to change your perception of sports can help you to make it a part of your lifestyle. After all, who doesn’t want to stay fit and healthy?
