4 Ways To Keep Your Children Entertained In The Holidays

By  |

School holidays can be a time that you look forward to because the whole family can spend some quality time together. However, when it comes to the holidays, it can become a bit stressful to continue to come up with ideas to keep your children entertained. Children thrive on structure, so when the structure school brings them is taken away, they can also start to get a bit agitated. The things that you do in the holidays don’t have to cost a lot of money, although you can add in a few treats now and then, it just has to be fun for you and the children. Below are a few ideas to help you keep the kids entertained in the school holidays:

Let them help make tea

To some, this may sound like chaos waiting to happen, but it can turn out to be a fun, educational experience for your kids. You could give them a choice from a few pre-selected recipes and take them through the whole experience. Bring them to the supermarket and let them hold the shopping list while you go round and buy all the ingredients. When you get home, help them to read through each step of the recipe and then work through it step by step. It’s a great way to get them interested in the food they eat and to start letting them learn how to cook for themselves.

Have a picnic

It might sound like a lot of work to have a picnic, but it doesn’t have to be. You can have a picnic down at your local park or in your back garden. You could even take bikes with you and turn it into a day out cycling. If it is raining outside, you could also lay down a blanket on the living room floor. There isn’t even any need to buy special food for the picnic if you don’t want to. Eating a sandwich while sitting on a blanket, wherever you are, can make the whole experience a lot more exciting than your average lunch.

Invite their friends over

Inviting your children’s friends over will not only keep them entertained, but it will also allow them to spend time with other people that aren’t you or their siblings. It might even give you a bit of time to do some other things around the house while they are occupied. There may also be the chance that your children will get invited over to their friend’s house in the future.

Days out

You can take the opportunity in the school holidays to do something that will entertain the whole family. The day out that you choose could be planned in advance to give you all something to look forward to. It could also be the thing that they tell all their friends about when they go back to school.

The day could be a trip to a theme park, a trip to the zoo, taking them to the cinema to watch a new film or to the local museum. The thing that you choose doesn’t have to be just for the kids, it can be for you too, and it is always lovely spending time doing something different together.
