Is Owning a Tesla Worth the Hype?

By  |

Though they come with a hefty price tag, Tesla vehicles have seen quite a bit of success in recent years and show no signs of slowing down. In fact, Tesla’s Model 3 is the world’s best-selling electric vehicle

Even if you’ve never been behind the wheel of a Tesla, you’ve probably seen or heard about some of the unique features in each car. Owning one also allows you to use Tesla superchargers anywhere in the country, where you can completely recharge your car in about an hour.

But, aside from all of the bells and whistles, is owning a Tesla really worth the hype? Furthermore, is it worth the cost?

There are a few things to consider when you own any car, but these unique models should be looked at a bit more closely before you make your decision. With that in mind, let’s look at some of the benefits of owning and driving a Tesla.

No Need to Buy Gas

We already touched on this, but it’s one of the biggest selling points for Tesla vehicles. Unlike hybrid cars that use a mixture of gasoline and electricity, Tesla’s electric cars are just that – fully electric. You’ll never have to stop at a gas station to fill up again (unless, of course, you’re there for the snacks!).

So, while some people steer away from Tesla cars because of the price, you have to factor in how much money you’ll be saving each year on gas. For most people, that’s probably a few hundred dollars. But, if you do a lot of driving, you could be saving thousands.

In addition to that being a benefit to your bank account, it’s also beneficial to the environment. Because they’re fully electric, Tesla vehicles are emission-free, and won’t release harmful chemicals or carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. With so much focus on climate change and the environmental impact of our decisions, Tesla cars are definitely a smart choice for sustainability.

Safety is a Priority

When you’re looking for a vehicle, one of the first things you probably consider is how safe it is. Car manufacturers are quick to highlight their safety features in marketing efforts, and it’s true that most manufacturers are coming out with new features all the time designed to keep you and your family secure on the road.

Tesla cars are more than just fun to drive. They’re some of the safest vehicles on the road, with the 2017 Model X becoming the first SUV in history to get a five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

In 2019, Tesla introduced even more safety features, like lane departure avoidance. This feature will not only alert you when you’re getting out of your lane without a turn signal but if you start to do that too often, it will automatically turn on your hazard lights and lower your vehicle’s speed. The goal is to prevent accidents from happening if you’re drifting out of your lane.

Because they’re fully electric, Tesla’s are also very quiet when you’re driving them. That can make for a much more comfortable drive. But, they’ve also taken into account that you can’t get too comfortable. If you fall asleep at the wheel, the system will use louder audio and visuals to wake you up. Again, the main goal with Tesla’s safety features is to keep you from getting into an accident where you could hurt yourself or get other people involved.

They’re Roomier Than You Think

Tesla’s are actually great family cars, not only because of their safety features but because of all the storage they provide. You’ll have a standard trunk, of course. But, there’s no engine in the front. All of the power is in the wheels. So, you’ll have extra room for bags and belongings in both the front and back of the car, and it doesn’t slow it down at all. In fact, Tesla’s are incredibly fast and can reach top speed in a matter of seconds.

Is It Worth It?

So, is owning a Tesla really worth it? It’s hard to find many downsides to owning one. They’re truly some of the best vehicles on the market and improving all the time, thanks to consistent advancements in technology.

It’s understandable that the price tag might be holding you back. But, a Tesla car is definitely worth that price, considering all of the technology and features that go into each one. They’ll undoubtedly continue to improve over time, too, so if you’re not able to buy one now, saving for one in the future will let you take advantage of even more great features from this innovative manufacturer.
